She was about to put the photo frame into the drawer when she noticed it was slightly uneven. Opening the back clasp, a silver pendant shaped like a droplet appeared before her eyes. On the back of the photo, there were two rows of Chinese characters. She quickly took out her phone and snapped a picture before closing the frame and placing it back in the drawer.
Taking a deep breath, she returned to the living room with her phone and Coconut Milk, glancing at her boyfriend who was cooking. She used an app to translate the characters: "Maybe you are not my happiness, the girl I once had. I wish you good luck!"
Kamila smiled happily, hugging her phone as she twisted on the sofa, just in time for Xu Weihua, who was carrying a plate, to see her. "What's wrong with you?" he asked.
The young girl hurriedly replied, "I accidentally twisted my ankle during training today."
"Really? Let me see."
Xu Weihua turned down the heat on the stove, wiped his hands, and squatted down beside the sofa. "Which foot?"
Kamila shyly lifted her foot, which Xu Weihua quickly took in his hands. He rolled up her pant leg and pulled down her sock a bit; her ankle was slightly red and swollen. He sighed in relief. "It’s nothing serious. After dinner, I’ll help you with a hot compress."
"You’re so nice."
The young girl looked at Xu Weihua with sparkling eyes, and he smiled gently at her rosy, shy face. "You’re my girlfriend now. If you get hurt, it makes me feel bad. If we switch places and I got hurt, what would you do?"
"I... I would cry."
Kamila’s response felt a bit silly to her, but Xu Weihua helped her put on her pants and socks again, gently rubbing her round little face before leaning down to kiss her forehead. "Crying means you care about me. Let’s watch some TV; I still have to finish preparing dinner."
Watching her boyfriend busy in the kitchen, Kamila grabbed a nearby cushion and hugged it tightly, her eyes fixed on him as if they were glued together. She quietly observed him until he brought out plate after plate of delicious dishes to set on the dining table, smiling tenderly at her as he said, "Let’s eat."
"Mm-hmm."
The young girl tossed aside the cushion and sat down at the table, accepting the bowl of rice that Xu Weihua handed her. "Try using chopsticks from now on; some Hua Xia Cuisine doesn’t taste good with a fork."
"Okay."
She held the bowl and accepted the dishes he offered her with delight, happily eating away while Xu Weihua took his time peeling Sweet Shrimp, feeding them to her: "Open wide."
"Ah! So delicious!"
Kamila’s big eyes turned into crescent moons as she enjoyed his feeding. After finishing their meal and sipping on some digestive Hawthorn Tea, she sat on the sofa in a daze until Xu Weihua brought over a basin of warm water to soak her feet.
Blushing, she let him wipe her feet before he used a warm towel on her ankle while gently massaging it. "Does it hurt?"
"No."
The living room fell into a warm silence as they gazed at each other with smiles in their eyes. Eventually, playful Kamila, resembling a cute sheep, found herself pinned on the sofa by Xu Weihua, who looked like a wolf in comparison. He gazed at her blushing round face and asked, "Kamila, what did you see in me back then?"
"I don’t know; my heart told me that if I didn’t confess to you actively, I would regret it for life! Love me!"
Suddenly feeling brave, Kamila leaned in and kissed Xu Weihua. The wolf was momentarily taken aback but quickly scooped up the sheep and hurried back to his bedroom, closing the door behind them.
"Mom, are you home today?"
In the living room, Kamila was on the phone with Qi Qin. In a relatively simple office, the middle-aged woman answered the call while looking at the accounts. "No, you know, dear, all I want is to work a bit more, save some money, and travel around the world with your father after retirement."
