"Uncle, do you see?"
Irina twirled in front of Xu Li, wearing a pristine white velvet mini skirt and a light pink long-sleeved vest, paired with white knee-high snow boots. She smiled and nodded, "See? I look good in anything."
Zhuo Ya sat beside him, legs crossed, snapping photos continuously. Peter lounged on the nearby sofa, casting odd glances at his Old Father and Irina, feeling that something was off but unable to articulate it.
He had been dragged here by Lisa and leaned lazily against the back of the sofa, fiddling with his phone. He nudged Uncle Andong's leg with his knee, bringing their heads close together. Peter gestured toward Irina, "Have you noticed anything strange?"
Uncle Andong looked at Peter as if he were crazy. "Are you itching for trouble? If you want to get beaten up, don’t drag me into it. If your uncle hears this, he might just skin you alive!"
"Don't you think Irina and my dad are acting too close?"
As Peter spoke, he suddenly gasped and turned to Uncle Andong, his lips trembling slightly. "Does that girl want to be my stepmother?"
"You really are a little cutie," Uncle Andong replied dismissively, waving his hand. He took a sip from the milk tea beside him and then sat next to Zhuo Ya, leaving her puzzled as she chose photos. "What were you two arguing about?"
"Nothing much; I just didn’t want to talk to an idiot."
Zhuo Ya chuckled and patted Uncle Andong's shoulder. "The young man has some awareness."
Uncle Andong rolled his eyes. "Aren't you going to pick out some clothes?"
"Open your eyes and see clearly; this is a children's clothing store! Do you expect me, a girl nearly two meters tall, to come here to buy kids' clothes?"
Zhuo Ya pouted and waved her hand dismissively. "You’re nothing special."
After being shot down, Uncle Andong shrugged and wandered into the adjacent adult section. Anna and Eva were busy helping Lisa pick styles. Compared to buying clothes for themselves, the sisters enjoyed dressing up children even more.
Lisa had grown into a young lady and was being turned around like a doll by Anna and Eva. Whenever they found something suitable, they tossed it into a nearby basket. Just as Uncle Andong was about to turn away, sharp-eyed Eva waved him over.
Eva pinched Uncle Andong's cheek. "Xiao Andong, you're looking quite handsome now; you definitely have the build for modeling. Auntie will take you shopping for a couple of outfits."
"I have clothes, Auntie; my mom just bought me some recently."
Uncle Andong didn’t want to be treated like a doll but felt somewhat resistant against Eva’s insistence. However, as a young man, he lacked the strength to resist her pull as she dragged him toward the men's section after helping Lisa choose her clothes.
After Zhuo Ya handed two baskets of selected clothing to Xu Li, she took Irina to buy cosmetics. Once they were out of earshot, Peter leaned closer to Old Father. "Dad, did Mom say anything to you a couple of days ago?"
"She did."
Xu Li turned his head and scrutinized Xiao Lao Liu for a moment before speaking again. "I can buy you a car; I won’t say anything if you go out to play during your break. But you still need to focus on your studies because much of a person's cultivation comes from acquiring knowledge and thus achieving personal growth."
"Dad doesn’t expect you to earn a lot of money; he just hopes you'll be polite and humble while also being brave and responsible. Your laziness isn’t because your parents don’t care about you; it’s only through strict education that you'll understand what is right and what is wrong."
Seeing Old Son silent, he patted the other’s shoulder. "Think about it. Why did the eldest and the second go to Moscow so early? Your mother and I had no objections. Why does Lao San live alone, while you have to stay at your cousin's house? There’s a reason for everything."
"What about Lao Si and Old Five?"
Peter blinked. "Those two are just like me."
"But they made their choices."
Xu Li rolled her eyes. "Weren't you the one who wanted to stay behind? Who are you blaming?"
With that, she got up and headed towards the men's clothing section. "Hurry up; I haven't bought you any clothes yet."
"Okay, coming!"
Peter smacked his lips and followed her, acting as a clothes rack. After buying clothes, the family found a restaurant and called over their long-time friends Andrei and Natasha. They happily enjoyed dinner together, chatting for a long time before both families went their separate ways.
Perhaps the food was a bit salty today; Peter rubbed his eyes sleepily and got up to drink some water in the kitchen. Just as he grabbed a cup and turned off the light, intending to head back upstairs, he heard his father's hoarse voice approaching from afar.
He stood there in confusion, unsure of what to do. The footsteps shifted toward the living room, leaving Xiao Lao Liu feeling utterly helpless.
As the heavy footsteps reached the sofa in the living room, confused Xiao Lao Liu felt like a helpless frog, slowly crawling on the ground before gradually making his way up the stairs.
