She doesn't owe me anything, but she does owe me a lot of money. The main issue is her family; they're quite disgusting, constantly asking her for money. She's soft-hearted and often borrows from me, leaving behind IOUs. However, she has a good relationship with Wang Xinlin, so I can't refuse to lend her money. I guess I'll just keep supporting her.
Is that so?
Xu Li stroked his chin. "You'd better set things up for her to cut ties with her family. This girl has the potential to become a superstar, but her family will be a burden. It's best if you get her to sign a long-term contract. I can write songs for her without any problem, but I want thirty percent of all the revenue generated by those songs!"
Thirty percent?
Xu Lei thought for a moment and nodded decisively. "No problem! The company takes forty percent, and the girl keeping thirty percent isn't too shabby. If she really makes it big, endorsements and gigs will be enough for her to live comfortably for life!"
Xu Li waved his hand dismissively. "I'm going to check out your Recording Studio. You stay busy."
"Do you want me to accompany you?"
Seeing Xu Li wave him off, he shrugged and leaned back in his chair, stretching lazily. "Ah, with Xu Father around, it's hard not to make money!"
I’ve told you before, young man, your looks aren’t suited for the entertainment industry. Being a nurse isn’t bad at all; not everyone can become a big star. Just go for it.
The manager should give me a chance; I'm good at writing songs.
Can't you understand human language? Just leave!
The door to an office swung open, and a chubby young man was pushed out by a middle-aged man. The young man's face was somewhat round, and he wore large glasses that made him look exceedingly ordinary. He held a document folder in his hands and seemed about to say something when the manager shot him a glare: "Aren't you leaving yet?"
Xu Li leaned against the reinforced glass in the corridor, quietly observing everything while smoking. Young people dreaming of stardom are as numerous as fish in the river. The HR manager had seen all kinds of people; if Xu Li weren't there, this plain-looking young man would probably have gathered himself up and headed off to the next audition.
"What’s your name?"
"Huh? Me?"
The young man looked up at Xu Li and took a couple of steps back in fear. "Big brother, this is tough for me."
"Can you write songs?"
Xu Li glanced at the document folder in his hands. The young man instinctively hid it behind him, looking wary. Seeing his suspicious demeanor made Xu Li chuckle. "Do you know who I am?"
"I don't want to show you because I do know."
"You're quite direct."
Xu Li shook his head. "Come with me; I'll take you straight to see the boss."
After some hesitation, the young man decided to follow Xu Li into the office. Xu Lei put his feet down from the desk and looked at the young man behind Xu Li, gesturing with his chin: "Who’s that?"
"A dreamer, I suppose."
Xu Li pointed at Xu Lei. "He's currently a sensation online as Boss Xu. He wouldn't deceive you with his song, would he?"
It was difficult for Xu Li to look at Xu Lei and then back at himself. After a moment of thought, he handed the document bag to Xu Li. The latter took it, opened it, and pulled the young man onto the sofa. He began to read slowly, occasionally humming a few lines. Xu Lei also became interested and leaned in to take a look, only to be pushed aside by Xu Li.
After putting the sheet music and lyrics back into the document bag and returning it to the young man, Xu Li said, "This song 'One Meat One Vegetable' is indeed quite good. Did it come from your mother?"
The young man nodded gently. "Yes."
