Yegor trudged back into the Cattle Shed, shaking off the white snow from his clothes. He switched off the Searchlight and placed it on a nearby shelf before settling down by the Fireplace to warm himself. He pinched a few kernels of corn roasting on the edge of the fire. 0

Outside, the biting cold wind howled, seeping through the cracks in the door but losing its battle against the warmth inside. Taking a couple of bites of the soft, sweet corn and sipping some homemade vodka brewed by his wife, Yegor felt that this was one of life's most wonderful moments. 0

On two nearby recliners, Victor and Gennady were snoring away. It was still early in the night, and it was Yegor's turn to keep watch. After finishing the corn, he grabbed two more ears and placed them on the Fireplace while poking at some sweet potatoes roasting on the other side. He picked one up, feeling its warmth in his hands. 0

After a while, he finally bit into a piece of Meat Sausage. As he chewed, his green eyes darted around before he stood up and opened a nearby cabinet. He pulled out a jar of Sour Cucumber and a stainless steel lunchbox containing Xun Yu and Meat Sausage prepared by his wife. 0

Although Yisha was older than him, she had a caring nature and never minded his lack of wealth or status. Just half a year after giving birth to their son, she was pregnant again. The thought of his chubby son with his scruffy beard made him smile involuntarily. 0

Suddenly, as he took another bite of Meat Sausage, he heard something. He slowly set down the bottle and sausage, pressing his ear against the door to listen closely. Amidst the howling wind, he could make out the sound of wolves howling. 0

Yegor quickly kicked Victor and Gennady awake. "Wolves are coming!" 0

"Damn it!" 0

Victor and Gennady cursed as they put on their coats and wool hats before grabbing their Rifles and following Yegor outside. They hurried toward the direction of the howling while using their walkie-talkies to contact other night watchmen at the Cattle Shed and sheepfold. 0

In the winter Siberian Plain, encountering a pack of wolves was a serious concern; these creatures were cunning and ruthless, often moving in groups. The forests within thirty to forty kilometers around their ranch had been patrolled by these wolves regularly. 0

It was certain that these wild wolves came from other areas due to a lack of food; they wandered into their territory searching for something to eat. It wasn't so much that they feared losing goats or sheep to the wolves; rather, they were worried about startling the Sheep Herd. 0

With two-meter-high sheepfolds, they didn't believe those beasts could jump over the fence! 0

"There are about ten wolves in sight; be careful." 0

Upon hearing there were about ten wolves, excitement spread among the men who rushed over for support. They grinned widely; wolf pelts were valuable prizes. Once processed properly, they could make warm hats with tails and gloves for their children. 0

Yegor tightened his grip on his Rifle as they trudged through the snow. Soon enough, they encountered three men from the neighboring barn who bolstered their courage with their firearms. 0

"Ha! Those beasts are scratching at the fence; they must be starving!" 0

Listening to laughter over the walkie-talkie as reinforcements arrived made everyone chuckle until someone opened their mouth too wide and caught a mouthful of cold wind and snowflakes. 0

The howling grew closer, and as they licked their lips in anticipation, they switched on flashlights attached to their Rifles. Soon enough, they spotted several pairs of glimmering green eyes in the darkness. Gennady, with his solid military training, instructed them to stand one meter apart in a line as they cautiously approached the fence ahead. 0
