"Where's the watermelon I wanted?" Old Liu asked.
Zhuo Ya sat in a corner of the sofa, cradling Irina, who was munching on French fries. Her long legs rested on the little flower's lap, occasionally tickling its chin with her toes. Lisa sat nearby, engrossed in a book, while Peter busied himself in the kitchen.
Soon, he brought the cut watermelon, washed strawberries, and grapes to the coffee table in the living room before plopping down beside his girlfriend to watch TV. "Has Old Four and Old Five come out yet?"
It had just started; it would be a while before it was their turn. They had a significant advantage since they had ranked first in every episode.
Zhuo Ya took a bite of watermelon. "This is the finals; I wonder what they plan to sing. They were so secretive when they called a couple of days ago."
They hadn’t officially debuted yet, but many girls from their school were already discussing them.
Lisa popped a grape into her mouth that Peter handed her. "Yesterday, Peter was bombarded with questions by Alyona from the next class. It really annoyed him! Alyona said Peter looked just like Old Five, but while Old Five looked good no matter what, Peter looked like a bumpkin. I couldn't stop laughing!"
"Right? I heard that too!"
Irina glanced at Peter, who was rolling his eyes dramatically. Comparing him to Old Five, Xu Jiaping, it was clear that Peter's physique matched Western beauty standards better. With his bowl-cut hairstyle similar to Xu Li's and a much more robust build than Old Four and Old Five, he resembled a smaller version of Xu Li from afar. However, his muscle definition was clearer and more proportionate, reminiscent of a statue of an ancient Greek god.
"Are you sure there won’t be any issues?" Liu Ke asked while watching the two brothers jump rope. Xu Jiaping paused and nodded after taking a deep breath. "No problem, Aunt Liu. We've been practicing this song for several days."
"The stage today is unlike any other," Liu Ke said, still feeling uneasy as he took the jump rope from them and adjusted it carefully. "There will be over ten thousand people watching live; it's your first time facing such a large audience. Remember, in previous episodes there were only two or three people in the recording studio."
"Oh come on, Aunt Liu! We know what we're doing; please stop nagging us!" Xu Jiaguo said as he bent down to hug Liu Ke around the waist, swaying playfully. Liu Ke chuckled in exasperation and pinched his cheek. "I'm just looking out for you guys; if you don’t want to hear it, I won’t say anything more."
"I'm hungry, Aunt Liu," Xu Jiaping said as he rubbed his stomach. "I hardly ate anything for lunch. By the way, isn't there any famous dish in Hangzhou? I want to eat some duck."
"I brought some cookies; you can snack on those for now," Liu Ke replied.
The two brothers sat on their chairs and took the cookies that were barely enough to fill their gaps while sipping on mineral water slowly. Seeing their pitiful expressions made all the girls watching the live stream feel their hearts break.
"Wow! Is this something I can watch without paying?" one exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh!" another added.
"It looks like they're getting cozy with Xiao Wu!"
As time ticked by, the live stream erupted again just as the previous group finished their performance. The camera switched to backstage where the brothers were changing clothes. Perhaps due to their vigorous movements, their well-defined abs and V-lines were briefly visible before the screen quickly cut away to another resting area.
Zhuo Ya took out a tissue and wiped her mouth. "Old Five's physique is not bad."
"Well, I could easily make them cry with one punch."
Peter nodded seriously, earning a collective glare from the three young girls. Meanwhile, in the backstage lounge, the two brothers sat in chairs as their stylist worked on their hair.
"Knock, knock, knock. Hua Xia Brothers, please prepare."
A staff member outside came to remind them. Liu Ke opened the door and exchanged a few words with the person outside. The brothers stood up, adjusted their clothes, and made their way to the door. "We're ready."
A flash of amazement crossed Liu Ke's eyes as she confidently accompanied the brothers down the long corridor to the stage entrance, where the girls outside erupted in a thunderous cheer:
"Hua Xia Brothers!
Hua Xia Brothers!
Hua Xia Brothers!"
