"Let's slaughter one, and I'll take it back. The other four can be cooked by the kitchen staff, and we can invite the village's elders and children to the dining hall for a meal."
Xu Li led Ivan into the office to settle the final payment for this batch of reindeer. Ivan tightened his wallet in his pocket and bid farewell to Xu Li before heading back with the convoy. Xu Li tossed the cigarettes he had brought aside and watched as Larry and Zhukov prepared to butcher the deer. "Each of you gets two packs," he said.
"Uncle is really generous," Larry flattered as he divided the cigarettes. Zhukov leaned closer to Xu Li. "Uncle, don't you think our ranch is getting a bit too mixed up? We already have pigs, cows, and sheep, and now we've added moose and reindeer. At this rate, we won't have enough manpower."
"You don't need to worry about manpower," Xu Li replied, ruffling the young man's bald head. "Our ranch currently has a stable customer base. We eat the pigs ourselves, and with a large number of sheep, selling them in bulk doesn't hurt us. The cattle on our ranch have all been replaced by new Beef Cattle, and our Chinese customers are very satisfied."
"Our ranch's reputation has already been established. Bringing in reindeer is just a matter of quantity; they grow meat quickly and return fast. Don't you want to enjoy some deer steak every now and then? Plus, it might even raise your wages."
"Of course!" Zhukov grinned like a village fool, his innocent laughter revealing his simplicity. "Uncle, just tell me what to do, and I'll do it!"
"Learn well from Old Alexander; stop hiding away playing on your phone all the time." Xu Li patted his head playfully and whispered in his ear, "His granddaughter is quite beautiful; she's only three years older than you. She'll be back at the ranch next summer to take over his duties. If you spend time together..."
"Hehehe." Zhukov smiled broadly at his respected elder.
Xu Li patted his shoulder, took one of the processed fawns wrapped in a woven bag, and tossed it into his car's trunk before preparing to head home with Xiao Bai.
However, Yegor approached with a basin of deer blood and some unmentionable items. "Village chief, this is great nourishment; you should take it home."
Xu Li waved his hand dismissively. "Let the kitchen stew it; we'll all have some soup together later."
"Take care then," Yegor said cheerfully as he carried the large basin into the kitchen. While everyone was busy working at the ranch, he picked up a larger stick-like object, scooped out a bowl of deer blood, tossed in two eggs, covered it like a thief, and dashed home before dawn.
When Xu Li returned home, he tossed the half-grown reindeer onto the stove. Although it was still a fawn, it weighed around eighty or ninety pounds after being processed. He removed its four legs: three went into the freezer while one was skewered for meat. He carefully separated the ribs from the back meat for frying deer steak later on. The spine bones and other large bones were set aside for stewing, while chunks from the belly were soaked in water for a tomato stew at noon.
After preparing the deer meat, he checked the time and started making breakfast. By the time Anna sleepily entered the kitchen, a pot of deer meat porridge was already cooking. He was busy frying eggs and deer steaks when Anna wrapped her arms around her husband's sturdy waist and sniffed at the delicious aroma of food.
"Why not let that calf grow up to sell for money? We don't lack meat at home."
"This is deer meat; it just arrived at the ranch last night. Some of them weren't suitable for continued raising, so we decided to butcher them for a taste." He cut off a small piece of meat with his spatula, let it cool slightly, turned around, and offered it to Anna's mouth. "Actually, deer meat is quite similar to veal."
"Mm."
