Xu Li stepped forward and grabbed Old Russian, lifting him in front of the bruised Ivan. Pointing at Ivan's battered face, he spat, "What's wrong with Ivan liking Lana? She's a woman with two kids, and Ivan's been divorced. They’re together, and not only are you unhappy about it, but you also hit him?"
As he spoke, he threw a punch at Old Russian's face, sending him spinning. If it weren't for Gennady and Yegor holding him up, he would have fallen to the ground. Victor, however, was not angry about the beating; he pushed Gennady and Yegor aside and approached Xu Li with a grin. "Aren't you mad that they're together?"
"Are you out of your mind? Why would I be mad?" Xu Li rolled his eyes and then realized something as he scanned the cafeteria filled with people. "Do you all think Lana is with me?"
Seeing that no one spoke up, which was equivalent to tacit agreement, he took a deep breath to calm himself. "Have you all gotten too comfortable here? Am I just some orphan you can bully? Do you really think I'm that pathetic?"
He shouted suddenly, causing everyone who met his gaze to lower their heads in silence. He pulled out a cigarette and stuffed one into Ivan's mouth. They lit up and began smoking together. "Who leaked this information?"
A few Xiao Nianqing hiding in the crowd shivered and quietly moved toward the door. The villagers exchanged glances until they finally pointed fingers at Kozilov, Zhukov, and nine other Xiao Nianqing.
Without Xu Li saying anything further, Andreev and several Old Russians rushed into the crowd to drag their respective kids out. Xu Li held the cigarette and gestured toward outside the cafeteria. "Strip them down and tie them up."
The Old Russians exchanged glances, gritting their teeth as they grabbed their children's hair or collars, ignoring their pleas for mercy. They dragged them outside to an empty space, stripped them of their clothes, and tied them up on a slaughtering rack before silently stepping back.
Victor, whose left cheek was swollen, went to the kitchen and brought back a bucket of water. He secretly poured in a bag of salt and stirred it with a whip several times before presenting it to Xu Li. Xu Li glanced at the salted water bucket while holding his cigarette and walked over to the few Xiao Nianqing. "Who found out first?"
"I did," Kozilov admitted quietly. Xu Li wasn't surprised; after all, his family lived next to Lana's. The second was Zhukov, followed by Lafu, and the last one was Lao San from the Gennadi Family—known for being mischievous in school.
"Shut them up," Xu Li said as he held the bucket in one hand and lightly stirred with the whip in the other. A few Old Russians sighed; it was truly embarrassing. A good lesson would serve them right. Kolechkin shoved a bit into his son's mouth and slapped him on the back of his head. "You little brat! You've embarrassed me enough!"
With a crack of the whip, Lao San from the Gennadi Family jerked in pain as his legs kicked out uncontrollably. Xu Li kindly dipped the whip into the bucket again before striking him on the back. After thinking for a moment about the Old Russians who couldn't bear to watch, he gestured with his chin. "Strip their pants too; there's plenty of meat on their backsides."
The Xiao Nianqing were on the verge of tears; Lao San from the Gennadi Family was genuinely crying now, unable to make any sound with his mouth full but letting tears fall freely. He cursed Kozilov and the others for telling him such shocking news!
"Mommy, help me!" At this moment, there was no time to call for his mother; even Xu Li’s father wouldn’t be able to save him now.
