"Did they get married during the summer vacation?"
She took out the keys and unlocked the storage room door. Valery instructed her son and son-in-law to move things, saying, "The summer vacation was just for getting the certificate. There was a lot of work on the ranch at that time, so after getting the certificate, we just returned to work. We planned to have a proper ceremony when everyone was back."
He lit a cigarette, saying to himself, "Hurry back inside before you freeze."
"Alright, I'll head back in then, Uncle," Zhuo Ya replied, nodding as he went into the house. Valery and the others loaded what they needed into the car, then Valery clapped his hands and locked the door before driving towards the cafeteria. Larry was driving and glanced at his father, saying, "Dad, Zhuo Ya is really good-looking."
"Good-looking doesn't mean anything," Valery shot a sideways glance at his younger son. "Don't get any ideas about her. Do you know how Irina came here?"
The young man nodded. "Yeah, she’s the adopted daughter of the village chief and the aunts."
"That's one aspect. On another note, she is also Zhuo Ya's girlfriend."
Larry slammed on the brakes in confusion, causing Lao Si and two brothers-in-law in the backseat to nearly bump their heads on the front seat. However, they didn't mind and instead looked curiously at Valery while Larry continued driving. Valery said, "A couple of years ago when there was nothing going on, I overheard Yisha and Daria chatting in the office."
"You guys must have seen it too; those two were always together, hugging and cuddling. So don't get any ideas about her. Also, don’t go spreading rumors. Do you want to experience that whip again from last summer?"
Just thinking about that whip digging into his flesh made Larry shudder. He silently continued driving until they arrived at the cafeteria, where he backed up to the entrance and waited for the men to hurry over and unload things. Xu Li was chewing on a cigarette while writing down what was needed.
Valery plopped down next to Xu Li. "Your Lao San and Irina are back."
"Yeah," Xu Li replied.
Xu Li continued writing intermittently, occasionally pausing to think before finally handing over a densely packed list to Victor who was waiting nearby. "Tomorrow you guys go to Bratsk and find Vasily for supplies. I’ll have Vasily pack some Sweet Shrimp and King Crab separately; it's all for Anna and Eva."
"Alright, I'll get up early tomorrow," Victor nodded as he took the list.
Xu Li handed them some cigarettes. "Do you still have cattle and sheep?"
"Yeah, we still have seven cows and fifteen pigs, plus over sixty sheep."
Xu Li nodded. "Do you want roasted suckling pig or whole roasted lamb?"
"Whole roasted lamb!" Victor chose without hesitation. With six kids at home, he felt especially guilty towards his eldest child; this time he wanted everything to be grand. Thinking of this, he lit a cigarette and said, "Talk to Vasily about lowering the price of fireworks; I plan to buy more."
"Sure, I'll mention it tonight. You can just go pick them up."
He stood up and stretched his waist. "You all keep busy here; I’ll go check on the kids."
Yegor was called over from the cafeteria. "Go pick a Deer Kid and prepare it for me. My daughters are back, and I need to show off my cooking skills tonight."
The village chief nodded. Yegor headed to the deer pen while Xu Li drove slowly back home. Just as he arrived at the doorstep and hadn't turned off the engine, Marina called: "We've decided. Everyone come over to my place for dinner tonight."
After parking the car, he went inside, hugged his daughters and Irina, and gave his wife a kiss before heading to the kitchen. About half an hour later, Yegor brought a processed Deer Kid into his kitchen. "I've got the deer blood for the village chief, but Sister Anna and Anna and Eva can't have it since they're pregnant."
"Wait a moment," he said as he pulled out a whole set of Weapon Cache from the bag he was carrying. He shot Yegor an annoyed glance, but Yegor just chuckled awkwardly before grabbing the other offal and heading home, just in time to prepare a special meal for his dog.
