Xu Lei nodded. "I understand."
Xu Li glanced at him before getting up to return to the house. Xu Haigui grinned beside him, thinking that studying well would lead to success and honor for the family. What was so great about being a celebrity? If he hadn’t spoiled Xiao Si and Xiao Wu so much back then, those two might have been pursuing research or even doctoral degrees by now.
They took his wife and children to the Han City Music Festival, attended the Huaxia Kimchi Music Exchange Conference, and watched the finals of the World Music Festival. Ultimately, the championship went to the eldest and second child. The opening song, performed by a siren-like voice, had such an impact that its English lyrics attracted overseas audiences. Once released, its sales skyrocketed, far surpassing those of Xu Jiaguo and Xu Jiaping.
"I want my mommy! Waaaah!"
"I want to go home!"
Xiao Qi and Xiao Ba sat in the living room crying loudly. No matter how Xu Haigui and Li Yanhong tried to console them, it was futile. Xu Lei rolled his eyes nearby; he sternly pressed Xiao Qi down onto his lap, pulled down his little shorts, and gave his chubby bottom a light smack. "If you keep crying, I’ll keep spanking you."
"I’ll cry! I’ll cry!"
Xiao Qi covered his bottom with his hands, sniffling as he looked at Xu Lei. "Just wait until I tell on you! You’re really good-looking, unlike my dad and brother; their faces are all hairy and ugly! I’ll get a tank to run you over! Waaaah!"
"Your parents aren’t here; I’m in charge."
Xu Lei smacked Little Guy’s bottom again twice. It must be said that Little Guy had inherited well; despite being chubby, he had a fierce spirit. He leaned down and opened his mouth wide as if to bite Xu Lei’s hairy thigh. "I’ll bite you! You hit Xiao Qi; I’ll bite you!"
Xiao Ba stopped crying as well; his round body lunged into Xu Lei’s arms, taking a big bite out of his fleshy chest. The pain made Xu Lei grit his teeth and gasp for air while Li Yanhong and Xu Haigui struggled to pull him away.
"See? Now you know our strength!"
Xiao Qi was pulled aside by Li Yanhong, rubbing his little bottom but no longer crying. He made a face at Xu Lei while Xiao Ba wiped away his tears with his hand but soon felt like crying again. "I want mommy! I want daddy!"
"Don’t cry; your parents will come to pick you up."
Li Yanhong pulled out some wet tissues to wipe Xiao Qi’s and Xiao Ba’s faces. "What did you promise your mom and dad? To be strong and brave good kids."
These two little rascals were stubborn; just look at what they did to me! Ouch!
Xu Lei lifted his shirt to check his chest, revealing two rows of red bite marks that made Xu Haigui’s face twitch before he broke into a grin. "Who told you to hit the kids first?"
"It was you who hit me first!"
