In the evening, the family gathered in the yard for dinner. Zhuo Ya shared her findings with Old Parent, while Xu Li furrowed his brow and blew out a smoke ring. "I understand," he said. 0

After finishing the meal, Xu Li tucked two packs of cigarettes into his pocket and headed to Alexei's house. The Maozi was busy renovating a warehouse, teaching his children how to hit sandbags. The two of them sat down in the yard, and Alexei's wife, Suzanna, brought over some watermelon. "Village Chief, have some water." 0

"Thank you," he replied with a chuckle. 0

He took a bite of the watermelon and continued, "The wild boar population in the forest has risen again. I want you to take some people to patrol the Cornfield at night. I'll equip you with brand new night vision goggles and drones. These beasts cause far more damage to crops than we do on horseback." 0

"Patrolling is no problem," Alexei said, lowering his head to smoke. His eyes darted around before he looked up at the village chief. "But our Wu Yan needs an upgrade. Those beasts are quite clever; it's hard to hit them with old rifles and shotguns." 0

"What kind of guns do you need?" 0

"The latest Full-Featured Precision Rifle," Alexei grinned, continuing, "And we need accurate rifles as well. Additionally, we require the newest Single Soldier Radio. After all, the Cornfield is too vast, and the noise from old models can easily disturb the wild boar herd." 0

"Should I equip you all with a complete set of new individual combat gear?" 0

"That would be great!" 0

Looking at the grinning Maozi, Xu Li rolled his eyes. "A fully equipped precision model costs over a hundred thousand on the international market. With that money, I could hire a professional team to hunt down the wild boars myself—do I really need you?" 0

"It's a bargain for us, Village Chief," Alexei insisted. "Buying once means we can use it for generations. You spend that same amount just to hunt wild boars once; in the long run, buying guns is definitely more cost-effective. Besides, those guns of yours are outdated—they're only good as collectibles." 0

Hearing this from Maozi made Xu Li think as well; it had been over ten years since he added anything new to his personal collection. 0

After finishing his watermelon, he tossed two boxes of cigarettes to Alexei. "Gather some people from the village—besides your group of veterans, include those who have served as volunteers and those Xiao Nianqing as well. Get everyone organized and start extra training from tomorrow morning." 0

"Sure thing, Village Chief!" 0

Upon hearing this, Alexei knew things were set in motion. Cheerfully opening a pack of cigarettes, he pulled one out and lit it. His eldest son, Sakhalov, leaned in with a grin. "Dad, is the village chief really buying new guns? Can I try them?" 0

"You focus on training; when you're old enough, you can join the army." 0

"What?!" Sakhalov shook his head like a rattle drum. "I don’t want to be a soldier!" 0

With a slap on his head, Maozi scolded him, "What do you know? The brother-in-law of the Village Chief's House is rumored to be getting promoted again! When I retired, he was already a Teacher in the engineering division; if he gets promoted again, he'll soon be a local official! How could you not benefit by sticking with him?" 0
