After finishing their meal, he picked up the chubby Zhuo Ya and showered her round, rosy cheeks with kisses. "Haha, my Zhuo Ya is still the sweetest, unlike your stinky brothers," he teased.
The little one, Little Guy, bounced on his lap, excitedly calling out simple words: "Daddy, Daddy!"
"Haha, Zhuo Ya is so clever," he laughed.
Each call of "Daddy" made him feel as if he were floating on clouds, and he hugged the little girl tighter. Andrei and Natasha watched with smiles, seeing Xu Li looking satisfied as if cradling his daughter.
Andrei reminisced about his own past, recalling how he used to hold Anna and Eva when they were still nursing, listening to them call him "Daddy."
"Uncle Andong, we’ll be heading out now. You should rest early," Xu Li said as he arrived in Irkutsk with his wife and children in the evening. They brought a beef leg for Old Anton, along with fresh vegetables and two large bags of homemade snacks. Old Anton, who was resting at home, happily shared a dinner with them.
Only the Old Couple were at home; Katyusha and Lev lived in the center of town, quite a distance away, and didn’t visit often.
"Come visit me and your aunt more often. Don’t bring food; your uncle and aunt don’t need it," Old Anton chuckled as he accompanied Xie Liao Na to see Xu Li's family off downstairs.
After a moment of thought, Xu Li asked, "You have just over a year until retirement. Have you considered moving back to the village? My dad often mentions you."
"Let’s talk about it later," Old Anton replied, taking a cigarette without lighting it, holding it between his fingers. "Lev moved into a big house in the eastern suburbs not long ago. It’s a villa with a yard and a pool. Once it’s renovated, Xie Liao Na and I will move there."
"Alright, give me a call later. I’m not a kid like I was five years ago!" Xu Li grinned at the Old Couple, shaking his fist playfully.
Xie Liao Na gave him a light pat on the shoulder. "Don’t be like those Maozi, always ready to fight. You need to use your brain more; otherwise, you’ll end up like Lev, without any prospects."
"Yes, yes! I’ll listen to you, Auntie," he replied earnestly.
Turning his face to let Xie Liao Na kiss him on the cheek, he nodded at the Old Couple. "We’ll be going now, Uncle and Auntie. It’s cold outside; you two should head back inside to warm up."
As Anna and Eva rolled down the car windows to wave goodbye to the Old Couple, they called out cheerfully: "Uncle! Auntie! Goodbye!"
Xu Weihua and Xu Weixia snuggled into Eva's arms, their chubby faces beaming as they waved their little hands: "Grandpa! Grandma! Bye-bye!"
"Haha, bye-bye!"
Xie Liao Na lovingly kissed the two plump boys on their cheeks before waving goodbye with her husband as they watched the car leave the neighborhood. They exchanged a nostalgic smile as Old Anton tightened his grip on his wife’s shoulder.
Slowly turning back towards their old apartment building...
The door was opened by the eldest son of Ivan's Family, Xie Liaosha, who struggled slightly to take the large beef leg from them. The second son, Lao San, soon followed with a cheerful smile as he grabbed the water and snack bags before rushing off to the kitchen with laughter.
As Xu Li and Anna entered the house, carrying the two sleeping children, they finally took off their coats. "Where are your parents?" Xu Li asked Metayeva.
Metayeva, the younger sister, had striking light blue eyes that were quite rare. She was just as pretty as her two aunts, but being in her teenage years, she was rather slender. While munching on a freshly washed Big Strawberry, she replied, "My grandma isn't well, so my parents went to her house."
Xu Li nodded and took the child from Anna and Eva's arms. He gestured toward Metayeva, who was still enjoying her strawberries. "You can sleep with your sister tonight; the bedroom is for your aunts and cousin."
After finishing her strawberries, the little girl went to tidy up in her room. She hugged her beloved Misha Bear pillow and headed to her sisters' room to squeeze in for the night. Meanwhile, after settling his wife and children, Xu Li went out to the balcony for a smoke and called Brother Ivan.
Upon learning that they wouldn't be back that night, he settled onto the living room sofa for the night.
The next morning, he prepared breakfast for more than ten people and woke up the little kids who still had school to attend. After making sure they all ate, he went to Metayeva's room to dress his two wide-eyed sons. The chubby boys were being cuddled by their sisters, holding onto them like pillows without letting go. Xu Li gently poked Anna's waist; when she turned around mumbling in her sleep, he took the opportunity to carry the older son out.
Little Guy immediately hopped down and dashed to the bathroom. "I need to pee!" he announced.
Xu Weixia did the same; just freed from his mother's embrace by Old Father, he rushed to the bathroom as well. Xu Li covered his wife with a blanket, kissed both of them on their foreheads, and started dressing the returning children.
"Stop daydreaming all day; school is what matters!" he said as he dropped off Xie Liaosha and the others at school. Ruffling his nephew's hair, he noticed the boy's discontent. "You're not much older than me; why do you talk like my dad?"
"I'm your elder!" Xu Li laughed heartily and handed each of them a One Hundred Thousand Rubles note. "Here, keep this for snacks and toys. Don't let your parents find out; otherwise, they'll confiscate it."
"Thank you, Uncle!" The kids beamed with joy as they ran into school. Xu Li waited until the youngest, Yekaterina, entered the teaching building before speeding back to Brother-in-law's house.
As soon as he stepped inside, he spotted Ivan—the rascal—peeking into Xu Weixia's pants. "Let me see your Xiao Queque; is it different from our Slavic kids?" Ivan said mischievously.
"Can you not be such a creep?" Xu Li scowled as he pulled his younger son away and slapped Ivan on the arm. "You're over forty; can't you act your age?"
"Ouch! Why'd you hit me?" Ivan rubbed his arm vigorously. "What brings you here this time?"
Anna Eva took the children out to play. The ranch had been closed for a while, and now that they had some free time, she decided to take them into the city for some fun.
Xu Li plopped down beside him and started chatting casually. Xu Weixia ran to the kitchen and grabbed two Water Sandwiches. She handed one of the remaining Big Strawberries to her brother, who was watching TV. The two siblings sat together, enjoying their strawberries while watching animated shows.
