The little girl with a cherubic face resembled a doll, though her figure was surprisingly well-developed. She handed the half-empty beer bottle to Xu Li, saying, "Here, I’ll treat you, Uncle."
"Haha, thanks!" he replied.
He took the bottle and gulped down the remaining liquid before tossing the empty bottle at a Thug, causing the thug to instinctively flinch. Xu Li smirked at the little girl and asked, "Out this late? Aren't you afraid your family will worry?"
She shrugged, "My grandma is asleep."
"What about your parents?"
"My dad froze to death outside, and my mom drank too much and drowned in the bath."
The girl seemed unfazed by her own words and looked up at Xu Li with a hint of admiration. "You're really amazing, Uncle. Let's date! I'm still a virgin!"
Her comment caught Xu Li off guard, but he quickly shook his head with a laugh. "That won’t do! I’m married; I can’t betray my wife. Besides, I’m so ugly—aren't you scared?"
"Not scared! You're a good person!"
Xu Li chuckled and got up to grab two bottles of good wine from the bar. After opening one, he started drinking. "Are you still in school?"
"Yeah, I have to save up for my tuition, so I’m working here selling drinks."
Her words made Xu Li purse his lips as he scrutinized her for a long moment. "How about this: you focus on your studies, and I’ll sponsor your living expenses every month. I’ll cover your tuition each semester."
"If you get into a good university, I'll buy you a new phone and laptop—pick whatever brand you want!"
He took another sip of his drink. "You're too young for this place."
Saying that, he rummaged through the pockets of the man sitting next to him. "Do you have any paper and pen?"
"Uh, no!"
The man rolled his eyes subtly while the little girl pulled out an old green-screen phone. "Here, Uncle, I have a phone."
Xu Li grinned as he took the phone and entered his number. "Call me tomorrow at noon."
"I have a task for you now. After you leave the bar, head east along this road and see if you can find a pair of twin girls and two chubby boys. Keep an eye on them and don’t let anyone else get close."
"Okay!"
The girl took back her phone, grabbed her coat from behind her, and dashed out of the bar. Meanwhile, some patrons took advantage of the moment to skip out on their tabs while others continued drinking. The bar owner had strong connections in the background, and they were curious how long this man could act so brazenly.
Xu Li returned to the bar with his beer bottle and sat on the counter with one hand propped up, sipping his drink absentmindedly. Suddenly, the dimly lit space of the bar brightened as a large group of police officers in black uniforms stormed into the hall.
Ivan, holding a baton, nervously scanned the bar for his brother-in-law. As soon as he turned around, he spotted him sitting at the counter waving: "Anna, are they here?"
"Ivan" put away his baton and walked through the injured "Thugs," offering one a cigarette. "You alright?"
"I'm fine, I've got plenty of meat to cushion the pain."
He took the cigarette, jumped down from the bar, and nodded towards the "Thugs." "A few of them don’t look like they’ll make it; I might have been a bit too rough."
"Well, if they’re dead, they’re dead."
"Ivan" waved his hand dismissively. "The owner of this bar is the brother-in-law of our Deputy Director at the Police Headquarters. With just one word from 'Lyekashov,' they’ll handle it. I’ll take you back now, and you can go to the station tomorrow morning to give a statement."
"Alright."
"Xu Li" threw half a bottle of liquor on the ground, took a drag from his cigarette, and followed "Ivan" out of the bar. The cold wind snapped him back to reality as he got into the car and headed to a nearby convenience store.
"Daddy! Daddy!"
Two chubby little boys clung to his legs, crying. "Xu Li" grinned and ruffled their hair. "You’re all big boys now; don’t cry over everything!"
"I’m scared! Wah!"
When Eva saw her husband walk in, she rushed over with tears and snot, wrapping her arms tightly around him. She nearly knocked over the two "Little Guys," but was pulled aside by "Ivan," who comforted her.
"Come here."
"Xu Li" waved at "Anna," who was holding a gun. She ran into his arms. "Did they hurt you?"
"No, we were just playing around. We talked some sense into them; don’t worry about it."
A girl whom "Xu Li" had instructed not long ago stood by, bewildered as she watched the three of them, along with "Ivan," who was in uniform holding the two little boys. She scrutinized the man before her and realized he was only a few years older than she was.
But he really is ugly!
"Here’s a reward for you."
After comforting his wife, "Xu Li" opened his wallet and counted out five One Hundred Thousand Rubles, handing it to her. "You should head home early, little girl. Start studying hard tomorrow and stay away from those messy places."
"Thank you, big brother!"
The girl took the money tightly in her hands, glanced at them, and pouted slightly. "My name is 'Katyusha Alexandrovna.' When I grow up, I’ll repay you!"
"Hahaha! Just make sure to study hard. Now hurry home."
"Okay! Goodbye, big brother!"
Katyusha hugged his sturdy waist gratefully, then waved cheerfully and ran off. Ivan cast a deep glance at his brother-in-law but said nothing as he led them back to the hotel. After Xu Li had coaxed them all to sleep, he finally took him out to the balcony.
The two of them slowly smoked their cigarettes. Ivan looked at Xu Li and asked, "What about that girl?"
"Oh, her? Just now at the bar," Xu Li replied.
"No other thoughts?"
Xu Li met Ivan's gaze for a long moment, unflinching. "What do you think?"
"Indeed! She's a bit young," Ivan nodded seriously, prompting Xu Li to punch him lightly on the shoulder. "Stop talking nonsense."
"What's wrong with it, Misha? It's normal for a man to have some fun."
Ivan exhaled a puff of smoke. "Especially now that you have money. What's wrong with enjoying some company? It's quite common around here. As long as you don't bully my sisters and take care of my parents, I won't interfere with your affairs."
"Get some rest. I'm heading back now."
After giving the silent Xu Li a pat on the back, he flicked the cigarette butt away and left the hotel. Once in the car, he pressed down on the accelerator and headed to the hospital. Soon, one of his subordinates approached him with a grim expression. "Captain, one is dead, and there's one in critical condition—might not make it."
"This kid is too ruthless," Ivan said, feeling a chill run down his spine. He nodded to acknowledge what he heard and waited for the officer to leave before calling Lyekashov. He relayed everything that had happened, and the response was simply three words: "Understood."
The next morning, Sister-in-law You Ya came to the hotel to accompany Anna and Eva while Xu Li took a police car to the station. Under Ivan's arrangement, he signed two forms and left the police station casually.
The report on the incident was straightforward: another typical gang shootout over territory! The capital-driven Da Mao Family often displayed their reckless power.
