After a few people left, Chang Qing put on a cap and approached a nondescript four-story building deep in the alley.
"System, are you sure this is the Ability User trading venue?" Chang Qing asked, looking at the unimpressive building with some disbelief.
"Host, don't doubt my capabilities," the system replied somewhat indignantly. It wasn't just a keyboard warrior that only talked big online; it was a practical business expert that had personally checked this place out. It was indeed a genuine Ability User trading venue.
Seeing the system flustered, Chang Qing couldn't help but chuckle. "Alright, our system is the best." He patted it reassuringly.
System: That was too dismissive; it didn't feel comforted at all.
After handing over five Crystal Cores, a doorman handed Chang Qing a mask, and he was escorted to the hall on the fourth floor.
As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he was greeted by a cacophony of noise.
"What’s going on here?" Chang Qing wondered. A quick glance revealed that the living room was packed with people, each seated at tables displaying various items, while others moved around inspecting goods.
"This is no different from a vegetable market! Not serious at all," Chang Qing couldn't help but comment.
"Well, it's an Ability User's vegetable market!" the system corrected him.
Chang Qing ignored it and took a look around. It was indeed somewhat different from an ordinary market outside.
Everyone here wore masks, but he could sense the fluctuations of Ability energy from each person—only Ability Users could participate. Moreover, the items being traded were not common foods or supplies; they were primarily related to Zombies and Abilities.
He noticed that many people had Crystal Cores on their tables, but most of them were Secondary Crystal Cores, which were of low quality. Some others had firearms displayed, likely scavenged from some Weapon Vault.
A crowd had gathered around a stall nearby, and as he approached, he realized it was selling pills. What was strange, however, was that these pills exhibited a faint wave of Ability energy.
"Can this pill really treat Zombie scratches and bites?" someone inquired.
"It can increase survival rates," replied the person behind the table, his voice low and muffled, clearly trying to conceal his true identity.
Everyone here was an Ability user and could sense the fluctuations of Ability energy within the pills, which explained their interest. Of course, some were more curious about the seller himself.
"Are you a Healing Type Ability user? How is the energy infused into the Pill?" someone asked.
"It's against the rules here to inquire about personal information," the seller coldly responded.
"One hundred Crystal Cores for a single pill is way too expensive," someone remarked, focusing on the price. Ability users needed to use Crystal Cores to enhance their Ability levels, often spending them on training after collecting them, so very few had large reserves. Thus, parting with one hundred Crystal Cores was not something one could do casually.
"With at least four or five dozen pills in that big box, is it really necessary to charge so much? Everyone is struggling to survive; can't we help each other out?" someone attempted to appeal to morality.
But the seller remained unfazed and even began to close the box.
"I'll take five," Chang Qing said quickly as it seemed the seller was about to leave.
All eyes turned toward him; some were surprised by his boldness, while others were angered that he disrupted the price equilibrium. He didn’t care about their reactions and pulled out five glowing blue Third-Level Crystal Cores, placing them on the table.
"The Third-Level Crystal Core can be exchanged for 100 Low-Level Crystal Cores outside, and for cultivation purposes, it’s even more effective than 100 Low-Level Crystal Cores. I’m sure the seller won’t mind," he said in a calm and flat tone, as if he were merely shopping at a market.
The crowd was taken aback when Chang Qing produced so many Third-Level Crystal Cores. The seller behind the table trembled slightly, nearly dropping the lid he was holding.
"Of course! I can even throw in an extra pill," the seller replied, his voice finally showing some excitement. It’s important to note that Third-Level Crystal Cores can only be obtained from the brains of level three Zombies, which are currently recognized by the Official as the highest level of Zombie mutation. They usually require multiple Ability users to team up in order to defeat them, which is why Third-Level Crystal Cores are so rare.
The way the crowd looked at Chang Qing changed; they had already deemed him a key figure of a large mercenary group. Someone stepped forward and cupped their fists in greeting. "Are you from the Dragon Blood Mercenary Corps?" After all, this Ji City is the territory of the Dragon Blood Mercenary Corps, which was the first thought that came to their minds.
Chang Qing placed the Pill Bag into his pocket. "It’s a requirement here not to inquire about personal information."
The crowd fell silent.
Regardless, Chang Qing had showcased his financial power, leading many to pull out items they wished to trade with him. He carefully selected and ultimately exchanged for three handguns and several rounds of ammunition before being guided out through a side door.
It’s worth mentioning that to prevent robbery incidents after transactions, the organizers had set up multiple exits, with only one person allowed to leave through each exit at a time. Although this took some time, it effectively avoided conflicts.
