I felt a wave of dizziness, as if I were caught in a swirling vortex, everything around me becoming blurred and indistinct.
The floor undulated like waves, and the old photographs on the walls twisted into grotesque shapes, seemingly mocking my helplessness.
“Lin Xia, what’s wrong?” A deep and indistinct voice echoed in my ear, carrying a chilling undertone. I struggled to grasp the source of that voice, but I found I lacked the strength even to open my eyes.
With all my might, I tried to break free from this invisible restraint, but my eyelids felt heavy as if filled with lead, refusing to budge.
In the darkness, fear surged like a tide, completely engulfing me. I could hear my heartbeat, thudding like a drum, starkly out of place in the silence of the dark.
“Lin Xia, hold on! Don’t give up!” The voice rang out again, seemingly closer this time, yet I still couldn’t pinpoint its origin.
I attempted to respond but found my throat constricted as if something were choking me, producing not even a whisper.
Suddenly, the piercing cry of Jiang Yao echoed in my ears. The sound sliced through the silence like a sharp knife, sending waves of nausea and terror coursing through me.
Her sobs were intermingled with chilling whimpers, as if she were accusing something or pleading for help.
“Jiang Yao! I’m here! I’m here!” I tried to shout, but my voice came out weak as a whisper.
I felt my body becoming weightless, like a feather drifting aimlessly through the air, devoid of direction and control.
I was like a kite with its string cut, tossed about by the fierce wind, rising and falling, swaying left and right.
I wanted to struggle, to escape, but found myself utterly immobilized, as if bound by an unseen force.
“Who will save me? I’m going to die!” I cried out in despair within my mind, but around me was only dead silence, with Jiang Yao’s cries and the sound of my heartbeat echoing in the void.
Suddenly, I felt a cold hand brush against my cheek, its touch as lifeless as that of a corpse, sending chills down my spine.
I tried to break free, but the hand gripped me tightly, rendering me immobile.
“Lin Xia, don’t be afraid, it’s me.” A deep, hoarse voice whispered in my ear. I opened my eyes wide, only to find myself engulfed in darkness.
I attempted to discern the scene before me, but my eyelids felt as if they were glued shut, refusing to budge.
“Who are you? What do you want?” I asked in terror, my voice trembling uncontrollably.
“Ha ha ha ha…” A chilling laughter echoed in my ears, sounding like a demon from hell, sending a wave of dread through me.
I felt my limbs beginning to stiffen, my breath becoming labored, and my consciousness starting to fade.
“Am I really going to die here?” I thought desperately, the fear of death crashing over me like a tidal wave, threatening to drown me.
I sensed my vitality ebbing away slowly, like sand slipping through an hourglass—irretrievable.
Just then, I suddenly heard a gentle and familiar voice calling my name: “Lin Xia… Lin Xia…” The voice was like a ray of sunlight piercing through the thick darkness, illuminating the despair in my heart.
“Who is it? Who’s calling me?” I tried to locate the source of the voice, but everything around me remained pitch black. I felt as though an invisible force was guiding me slowly toward the light.
“Lin Xia, don’t be afraid; I’m here.” The voice rang out again, and this time I finally recognized it—it was Chen Mo! A surge of excitement filled my heart as if I had found a lifeline.
“Chen Mo! I’m here! Please come save me!” I shouted loudly, my voice tinged with a hint of sobbing.
I felt sensation returning to my body, and my eyelids began to feel lighter.
Finally, I could fully open my eyes! I could see everything in front of me: the furnishings in the room were still old, but at this moment, they no longer filled me with fear; instead, they brought a sense of familiarity. Standing before me was my mysterious and knowledgeable neighbor, Chen Mo.
She wore a long black robe, her long hair cascading gracefully over her shoulders, and her gaze was deep and enigmatic.
In her hand, she held a candle, its faint light illuminating the entire room and dispelling the fear within me.
"Lin Xia, are you alright?" Chen Mo asked with concern. Her voice was gentle yet firm, like a clear spring flowing through my heart.
I shook my head and replied, "I'm fine, thank you for saving me." My voice still trembled slightly, but my heart had calmed down considerably.
Chen Mo smiled softly and said, "No need to thank me; it’s what I should do. But how did you end up here? This place is very dangerous, you know?"
I looked around and noticed that Jiang Yao had vanished without a trace. The room felt empty, just the two of us remaining.
A wave of fear washed over me as the events that had just transpired felt like a nightmare that lingered in my mind.
"I... I don’t even know how I got here," I stammered. "I only remember feeling dizzy all of a sudden, and then everything went blank."
Chen Mo nodded thoughtfully and said, "This is a forbidden area of the old house; very few dare to enter. You must have been lured here by something."
"Lured? By what?" I asked curiously.
Chen Mo paused for a moment before responding, "Some secrets are best left uncovered. But since you've already gotten involved, I won’t hide it from you.
There are some unknown evil forces hidden here; they lure curious individuals inside and then drain their life force."
Upon hearing this, I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine. It turned out that I had almost become a victim of those malevolent forces!
“What… what should I do now?” I asked in terror.
Chen Mo looked at me, her eyes filled with determination. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here. I will protect you and get you out of here.”
I nodded, my heart swelling with gratitude. I knew that at this moment, only Chen Mo could save me.
We cautiously stepped out of the room and into the hallway of the old house. The corridor was pitch black, with only the flickering candlelight in our hands casting a faint glow.
I could feel a chilling and eerie atmosphere surrounding us, as if something was lurking in the shadows, watching us.
“Chen Mo, this place is so terrifying!” I clutched her hand tightly, fearing she might suddenly vanish.
Chen Mo patted my shoulder and said, “Don’t be afraid. Just follow me.”
We moved forward step by step, each footfall filled with uncertainty and danger. But as long as Chen Mo was by my side, I felt an inexplicable sense of security.
Suddenly, a cold wind swept through, causing the candle flame to flicker wildly.
I looked up and saw a shadow emerging ahead! The figure trembled in the dim candlelight, emitting a low, mournful sound.
“What is that?” I asked in fear.
Chen Mo fixed her gaze on the shadow and whispered, “That is the embodiment of evil forces. They will try to stop us from leaving.”
With that, she suddenly pulled out a talisman from her pocket and began to chant incantations. The talisman emitted a brilliant light that shot straight toward the shadow!
The shadow let out a piercing scream as it was illuminated by the light, slowly fading away. A wave of joy surged through me; I hadn’t realized that Chen Mo possessed such powerful artifacts!
We continued walking forward and finally stepped out of the old house's door! The night outside was as dark as ink, and the cold wind pierced through me; yet I felt an unprecedented sense of relief and freedom.
I turned to Chen Mo, my heart filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Chen Mo. If it weren't for you, I might have died in there."
Chen Mo smiled slightly and said, "No need to thank me. But you must remember, the old house hides many secrets and dangers; it's best if you don't come back here again."
I nodded and replied, "I understand. But… I'm still very curious about what those secrets are."
Chen Mo looked at me and sighed. "Some secrets are better left uncovered. But if you truly want to know the truth… I can help you."
Hearing this, I felt a surge of excitement! I never expected Chen Mo would be willing to help me uncover the secrets of the old house!
"Really? Thank you so much!" I grasped Chen Mo's hand tightly, expressing my gratitude.
Chen Mo nodded and said, "But you must promise me that no matter what happens, you will remain calm and not act impulsively."
With Chen Mo's help, I began my journey to unveil the secrets of the old house… a journey filled with the unknown, danger, and horror…
