The golden ship slowly ascended towards the sky, and the small figure of Yue Ya gradually became blurred in our sight.
She stood at the edge of the ship's railing, waving her little hands incessantly, crying and shouting loudly, "Father! Mother! I will definitely come back to see you!"
Her voice was mercilessly drowned out by the howling wind.
The Daughter-in-law had long since cried until she could barely speak, her body so weak that she struggled to stand.
I held her tightly in my arms, tears uncontrollably streaming down my face.
With Yue Ya leaving, I truly wondered when we would see her again.
She had already become an indispensable part of our lives, a precious daughter we cherished as if afraid she might break or melt away. Yet now, we had to send her back to the distant Heavenly Palace.
“Lao San, will our daughter be okay over there?” the Daughter-in-law choked out, her eyes filled with helplessness and worry, as if searching for a glimmer of hope in the darkness.
I silently wiped away the tears on my face, feeling a deep sense of helplessness, and slowly replied, “Our daughter is a celestial being; the Heavenly Palace is her true home.
The years we have spent together with her have already been a tremendous blessing bestowed upon us by heaven.”
Just then, a clear and melodious voice suddenly echoed through the sky:
“Li Lao San, Xu Sanniang, your nurturing of Yue Ya has been acknowledged by the Azure Emperor.
To express his gratitude, the Azure Emperor grants you three generations of wealth, hoping that you will live a prosperous and fulfilling life from now on.”
I instinctively looked up and saw a dazzling array of colors in the sky.
The light continuously gathered and coalesced, eventually forming a brilliant pearl that slowly floated down towards us, coming to rest right before us.
This pearl radiated a soft and warm glow, illuminating us completely, as if we were enveloped in a layer of sacred brilliance.
"This is the blessing bestowed upon you by the Azure Emperor. It will protect you throughout your life, granting you peace and prosperity, with descendants aplenty."
The majestic and solemn voice of the Golden Armored Warrior echoed from the sky, gradually fading away as if disappearing into the horizon.
I gazed at the pearl before me, my heart filled with countless emotions.
Though we had lost Yue Ya's companionship, knowing that she was happy and well in the Heavenly Palace brought me some solace.
Moreover, because of her, we had received the Azure Emperor's grace and were able to live a good life.
"Lao San, our daughter must be missing us," my daughter-in-law said tearfully, resting her head on my shoulder as her tears soaked my clothes.
Time flew by like a fleeting shadow, and days passed unknowingly.
Eventually, we moved to the county town and settled into a spacious and grand residence. Life became abundant and prosperous, with grandchildren surrounding our knees, enjoying the joys of family.
However, no matter how fulfilling our lives became, there remained an unfillable void in both my daughter-in-law's and my hearts—Yue Ya was not by our side.
She was like the missing piece of a puzzle in our lives, leaving our hearts forever incomplete.
Every evening, we would sit quietly in the courtyard, gazing at the splendid sunset on the horizon as our thoughts drifted far away.
I often wondered if Yue Ya was somewhere at that moment, looking up at the same sky and missing us.
The daughter-in-law often found it hard to control her emotions, quietly wiping away her tears.
Seeing her sad expression made me sigh as well, my heart filled with longing and concern for Yue Ya.
One evening, as usual, I sat in the courtyard, holding my adorable grandson in my arms, telling him stories about Yue Ya.
My grandson listened intently, his eyes fixed on me without blinking, as if he could see the lively and lovely figure of Yue Ya through my words.
"Grandpa, will Auntie come back?"
He asked with his tender voice, a hint of hope and yearning in his words.
I was momentarily taken aback and instinctively looked up towards the horizon.
At that moment, the soft glow of the setting sun bathed the clouds above, painting the sky in a brilliant array of colors, breathtakingly beautiful.
Just then, a melodious and enchanting Celestial Music floated gently from the distant sky.
The sound was crisp and ethereal, as if it came from a faraway place yet was clear enough to be undeniable, almost calling out to us.
"Grandpa, do you hear that? What is that sound?"
My grandson asked curiously, his eyes sparkling with wonder.
I closed my eyes and quietly listened to the beautiful Celestial Music.
The music grew closer and clearer, as if it emerged from deep within the clouds at the edge of the sky, carrying a mysterious and sacred aura.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked up.
I saw the clouds at the horizon gradually transforming into a dreamlike shade of purple, swirling like auspicious clouds, as if something magical was about to emerge from within.
"Grandpa, look!"
The little grandson excitedly pointed towards the sky, his eyes sparkling with delight.
I followed the direction of his finger and saw a faint figure appearing amidst the purple clouds.
As the figure became clearer, I realized it was a girl dressed in pink, waving her arms in our direction.
My heart skipped a beat, and tears instantly filled my eyes.
I was certain that it was Yue Ya, my daughter whom I had missed day and night.
"Yue Ya..."
I choked out her name, my voice filled with endless longing and concern.
Hearing the commotion, my daughter-in-law hurried out as well.
When she saw Yue Ya in the sky, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, and she exclaimed excitedly,
"Our daughter, our daughter has come back!"
