As soon as the words left his mouth, the Wolf King slowly emerged from the other side of the valley.
It was much larger than an ordinary wolf, its fur a dark gray, and its eyes gleamed with a fierce intensity.
With its head lowered, it approached the two chickens step by step, each movement causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Seeing this, everyone held their breath in fear.
"Ah!"
Just as it was about to step into the trap, someone couldn’t hold back and let out a nervous gasp.
Damn it, the whole plan was falling apart.
The Wolf King wasn’t foolish; sensing something was off, it halted, and the fur on the back of its neck bristled as it let out a low growl.
The villagers, upon seeing the Wolf King, stumbled back several steps in terror.
I gritted my teeth and shouted, "Don’t be afraid! If we run, we’ll all die!"
Though frightened, the villagers raised their clubs in response.
Seeing so many people suddenly appear, the Wolf King took a few steps back but quickly regained its menacing demeanor.
It growled again, the sound echoing through the valley and making our ears ring.
Seizing the opportunity, I swung the iron chain forcefully against the ground and yelled:
"Light up those torches!
Beast, today is your day to die!"
The Wolf King lit up the torches and took a few steps back before suddenly charging forward.
It came at me like a gust of wind, moving at an astonishing speed.
Before I could react, it had already reached the edge of the trap.
I thought to myself, perfect, if it runs over, it will surely die.
But just then, the Wolf King leaped high and actually jumped over the trap, heading straight for me!
I was stunned, cold sweat breaking out as I thought it was all over. I wanted to retreat, but it was too late.
The Wolf King's claws landed on my shoulder, pinning me to the ground.
The villagers gasped in shock and rushed over with their torches to help.
But the Wolf King paid them no mind; with a powerful swing of its massive tail, it sent several villagers flying aside.
Lying on the ground, I looked up at the Wolf King's fierce face, despair filling my heart.
"Tian Qi!" The Village Chief's voice called out from afar, but I could barely hear him.
The Wolf King's claws inched closer to my throat as I closed my eyes, thinking:
Today is the day I die here.
Its claws were already touching my throat, cold and sharp.
I shut my eyes tight, believing this time I truly had no chance of survival.
But just then, the Wolf King suddenly stopped. It seemed to relish the thrill of life and death, growling softly as its hot breath washed over my face.
I opened my eyes and saw the cold gaze of the Wolf King, filled with murderous intent. It slowly lowered its head, seemingly preparing to deliver the final blow.
I had exhausted all my strength and could only watch helplessly as the Wolf King's claws drew closer.
As a proper Taoist, how could I die here so pathetically?
I struggled desperately, but the Wolf King's claws gripped my throat like iron pincers.
At that moment, the Wolf King suddenly raised its head and let out a thunderous howl towards the valley.
The sound echoed through the valley, making my ears ring.
I noticed a glimmer of pride in the Wolf King's eyes; it seemed to be declaring its victory.
Suddenly, I realized that the Wolf King was showing off; it didn't regard me as a threat at all.
I gritted my teeth, and an idea sparked in my mind.
With all my might, I managed to free one hand and, using my last ounce of strength, I swung the iron chain towards the Wolf King's hind leg.
The chain wrapped around its leg, and it let out an angry roar.
It struggled furiously but couldn't move for a moment, its eyes filled with rage.
I scrambled to my feet, grabbed the chain that ensnared it, and pulled it towards the trap with all my strength.
As I dragged it along, I shouted loudly:
"Village Chief! Hurry! Light the fire! Burn it alive!"
Hearing my shout, the Village Chief quickly organized the villagers to throw torches in the direction of the trap.
The Wolf King was no pushover either; sensing something was amiss, it struggled fiercely in the opposite direction.
“Beast, get in there!”
I was truly unable to pull any longer. With a loud shout, I grabbed the other end of the iron chain and swung it hard at the Wolf King's hind leg.
The Wolf King yelped in pain as the chain cut into its flesh.
In agony, it bit down on the chain and violently shook its head, snapping the entangled metal links apart before lunging toward me.
I couldn't dodge in time and was once again knocked to the ground by the Wolf King, rolling several times before coming to a stop.
I got back up, watching as the Wolf King approached me once more, despair filling my heart.
I knew that this time, the Wolf King would not give me another chance.
It charged right up to me, its claws raised high, ready to deliver the final blow.
I closed my eyes, thinking: It's over.
