Lin Xun pulled the cat out from the depths of the basement.
The little kitten was clearly well-fed, soft and warm in his arms, like a bag filled with hot water.
"You need to lose some weight," Lin Xun said to the cat.
The cat widened its eyes as if it understood Lin Xun's words, responding with a slightly resentful "meow."
Hua Tian, Xu Jingyu, and Zhan Lang waited for Lin Xun at the spot.
Xu Jingyu had tried to escape several times, but due to Zhan Lang and Hua Tian's presence, he had not succeeded.
After placing the cat in front of the three, Lin Xun stroked Black Cat's chin.
The Black Cat, in turn, flopped onto the ground, exposing its belly in a display of vulnerability.
"This cat... is a bit strange..." Lin Xun murmured as he observed the lower half of the cat.
As if it understood him, Black Cat immediately stood up and hid behind Hua Tian.
Lin Xun picked up the cat once more.
A bell hung from the cat's neck, and Lin Xun noticed that there was also an inscription on the Cat Bell that read "Xue."
"Could it be...?"
He pondered carefully.
"We're looking for a dog, why are you looking for a cat?" Zhan Lang asked impatiently as he noticed Lin Xun lost in thought.
"We can't find that dog anymore," Lin Xun replied.
Xu Jingyu's heart sank.
What if Lin Xun had told Zhan Lang about that dog in the Changing Room? Would Zhan Lang...
"Why?"
Indeed, Zhan Lang was very agitated.
"I calculated the time, it's not enough," Lin Xun concealed the matter of the dog from Xu Jingyu.
"Just because there's not enough time, you gave up?"
Zhan Lang tightly grasped Lin Xun's collar.
"If I die, what good will it do for you?"
Lin Xun gently patted Zhan Lang's hand to signal him to let go.
But Zhan Lang clearly would not comply with Lin Xun's wishes.
He was now lacking in strength, to the point where even Lin Xun could easily break free from his grasp.
Lin Xun smoothed out his wrinkled collar and said, "Why are you in such a hurry? This shirt is quite expensive! Besides, I’ve already thought of a solution."
He pointed to the Black Cat in his arms.
The adult Black Cat yawned lazily.
"Summer Lotus said she was looking for a dog named Cat, not an actual cat."
[It’s highly recommended to change the cat's name to Dog; maybe that will fool Summer Lotus.]
[Things are getting urgent! Zhan Lang is getting anxious!]
[Brothers are like limbs; women are like clothes. Anyone who touches my clothes will have their limbs severed!]
"Xu Jingyu, it's your turn to perform!"
Lin Xun called out Xu Jingyu's name.
In an instant, everyone turned to look at Xu Jingyu.
Her face, already pale, turned even more as Lin Xun called her out, leaving her looking utterly helpless.
"What do you mean... what do you mean it’s my turn to perform…"
Lin Xun smiled and said, "So good at acting—your real profession is an actress?"
Xu Jingyu bit her lip and remained silent.
"I guess your skill must be something like Illusion Magic. What is your profession? Illusionist? Magician? Hypnotist?"
Lin Xun listed the professions one by one.
Xu Jingyu lowered her head, her eyelashes fluttering.
The lip she was biting turned slightly red, clearly deep in thought.
After a long while, she finally spoke, "I'm an Artist."
"Is the skill of an Artist really that advanced?"
The conversation between Lin Xun and Xu Jingyu left the other two feeling somewhat bewildered.
However, they very tacitly refrained from interrupting.
"After I entered the Game, I unexpectedly triggered a professional skill quest. After completing the quest, I bought a Surprise Box in the Skill Mall. When I opened it, I received the highest skill of the Artist profession, Painting Without Painting."
Damn.
While others opened high-level skills from their Surprise Boxes,
I ended up with Oiran's pants, and it was the plain version at that.
The gap between people is truly wider than that between humans and dogs...
" Painting Without Painting allows one to paint the images from their imagination onto any object."
"For example, painting skin over a wound?" Lin Xun asked.
Xu Jingyu nodded.
"But I'm curious, how did you figure it out? When did you realize that my profession isn't that of a doctor?"
Lin Xun thought for a moment. "I noticed it right from the start."
Xu Jingyu's eyes widened in disbelief. "Impossible! My acting skills aren't that poor!"
Lin Xun handed the cat in his arms to Xu Jingyu. "It has nothing to do with acting; it's about the details."
The other three listened intently.
"First, how could a doctor healing a wound need to see the wound? Moreover, it's on your own body—don't you feel it?"
"Second, even if a doctor's skills required such a thing, I believe there's not a single doctor in the world who can heal a wound while simultaneously repairing damaged clothing."
"Third, your complexion has always been poor. If you truly possessed healing skills, your complexion should gradually improve."
"Fourth, given your personality, if you really had healing abilities, you would definitely find a powerful teammate to do the hard work for you."
Xu Jingyu's face was filled with incredulity.
"How could I possibly have made four mistakes!"
"Not just in a few places, but I can't be bothered to say more," Lin Xun remarked.
"You!" Xu Jingyu exclaimed.
Lin Xun looked at Xu Jingyu with indifference.
"Someone like you, who enjoys selling out teammates, is the least suitable to be a friend. The only reason I'm willing to keep you around is that your skills are useful to me."
Xu Jingyu sneered, "Oh really? Didn't you just say I would sell out teammates? So why are you treating me like a teammate now?"
Lin Xun frowned slightly. "Don't get me wrong! We have a cooperative relationship, not a teammate relationship. The only person I consider a teammate is Hua Tian."
Hua Tian's face turned crimson, her eyes filled with disbelief.
[What the hell! Don't flirt with my girlfriend!]
[Player, you've changed! You're no longer a member of our Steel Straight Man group!]
[Go die, go die, go die!]
His words were not just directed at Xu Jingyu.
They were also meant for Zhan Lang.
But for someone like Zhan Lang, death was always like the wind, a lone wolf that accompanied him constantly.
To him, whether someone was a teammate or not didn't matter.
Xu Jingyu's once beautiful face twisted in an instant.
No one had ever dared to speak to her like that!
She came from a family of performers.
She began learning the piano at three, and by seven, she won first place in a city painting competition. From that point on, her life was smooth sailing.
Since childhood, she had been the envy of others—the perfect child, the class beauty, the school goddess. Her life was a dazzling display of gold and glory.
Everyone adored her, cherished her, envied her; no one had ever dared to treat her this way!
A person who had never been defied before found herself so despised in this Game.
All she wanted was to protect herself. Was that wrong?
She silently questioned herself, but unfortunately, no one answered.
At that moment, Lin Xun spoke again, “I know you must be feeling really upset right now. But for the sake of survival, please bear with it!”
