A group led by Fu Xingchen ventured deeper into Eastern Mountain, navigating the rugged terrain filled with jagged rocks. A thin mist enveloped the forest, casting a hazy veil over the surroundings. Zhao Gang walked at the front, using an iron rod to clear the thorns in their path, muttering, “This cursed place is hard to traverse. That mysterious organization sure picked a secluded spot.”
Mu Yunfan followed closely behind, keeping an eye on their surroundings as he warned, “Everyone be careful; the dangers hidden in these mountains could be triggered at any moment.” Suddenly, Lin Yu accidentally stepped on a loose stone, which rolled away with a loud clatter that echoed through the silent woods. The group immediately halted, alertly scanning their environment.
“Everyone quiet, listen for sounds,” Fu Xingchen whispered, instinctively tightening his grip on the hilt of his sword. After a tense moment without any signs of danger, they all sighed in relief and continued onward.
After a challenging trek, they finally arrived at the entrance of the mysterious temple. The structure appeared quite dilapidated, its walls covered in moss, and the door was tightly shut with much of its paint peeling away. Weeds thrived on the steps leading up to it, and an eerie atmosphere lingered in the air.
“So this is the temple? It looks like it’s been abandoned for ages,” Su Yizhi remarked with a frown. Fu Xingchen stepped forward to examine the door closely and noticed some strange symbols carved into it. “These symbols are similar to those we encountered before; it seems the mysterious organization had marked this place long ago,” he said.
Mu Yunfan attempted to push open the door but found it unyielding. “Looks like we need to find a mechanism to open it,” he stated. The group began searching around for any hidden mechanisms. Lin Yu circled the temple and suddenly shouted, “Everyone come here! There’s a groove!”
They gathered around to see that the groove had an unusual shape resembling some kind of animal.
Fu Xingchen pulled out a jade pendant from his pocket that matched the shape; it was something they had previously taken from a man in black. He placed the pendant into the groove, and with a click, the door slowly creaked open. A musty odor wafted out, causing them to cough involuntarily.
Cautiously, they stepped into the temple, where dim light filtered through gaps in the dilapidated roof. They found several worn-out Buddha statues scattered around; their features were indistinct and somewhat eerie.
As they walked down the corridor of the temple, they suddenly heard a rustling sound. Zhao Gang tightened his grip on his iron rod and asked nervously, “What’s that noise? Could there be some kind of monster?” Fu Xingchen signaled for everyone to stop and listen closely. A black rat darted out from a corner but quickly scurried away upon seeing them.
“Just a false alarm; it was only a rat,” Mu Yunfan said as they pressed on until they reached the main hall of the temple. In the center stood a massive Buddha statue with an altar in front of it holding a box.
“Could that box contain the Ancient Artifact?” Lin Yu exclaimed excitedly. However, Fu Xingchen sensed that things were not so simple; he carefully observed his surroundings and noticed strange lines etched into the ground. “Everyone be cautious; there may be traps here,” he warned.
He traced along the lines slowly and discovered that they connected to the box on the altar. “It seems we need to solve these mechanisms to access the box,” Fu Xingchen concluded as he crouched down to study the paths of the lines in search of a way to disarm them.
After a while, Fu Xingchen seemed to notice something. He picked up a stone and threw it in a certain direction. As soon as the stone hit the ground, several sharp arrows suddenly shot out from around them. "That was close!" Zhao Gang exclaimed.
Fu Xingchen said, "Everyone, follow my instructions and be careful where you step." The group cautiously followed Fu Xingchen, inching closer to the table. Finally, they arrived in front of it.
Fu Xingchen reached out to open the box, but just as his hand touched it, several figures in black jumped out from behind the statue. "You finally made it!" the leader of the black-clad figures sneered.
