A massive creature with a pair of enormous horns and pitch-black fur, covered in soil and tree debris, appeared before Shi Hao. The creature, known as the Mountain Bull, stood nearly fifteen meters tall, dwarfing Shi Hao, who was less than a meter in height, making him look like a tiny ant beneath its feet.
The Mountain Bull surveyed its surroundings, confused about why it had awakened in this place. It looked at the protective barrier surrounding it, feeling somewhat bewildered. Then it noticed the small figures of people from Shi Village nearby. What were these tiny beings? Did the Great Wilderness still have such small creatures?
Tentatively, the Mountain Bull approached the edge of the barrier and pushed against it with its horns. There was no sound; the barrier held firm against its attempt. Taking a few steps back, the Mountain Bull charged forward, its horns glowing with a dark light as it collided with the protective shield once more. Again, there was no sound; it merely pressed against the barrier without any effect.
Seemingly giving up, the Mountain Bull retreated a few steps and lay down. At that moment, Little One also arrived beneath its massive head.
"Big Bull," Little One said, "there's no need to force it; you can't break through the barrier Uncle Yunqing created."
Hearing this voice, the Mountain Bull looked puzzled and noticed that a tiny being had come to stand beneath it. Since it was lying down, its head was not far from the ground—about five meters above—and it leaned down to examine Shi Hao closely.
"Moo?"
Shi Hao couldn't understand what it was saying, nor could he communicate his thoughts to the creature. He felt at a loss for what to do next.
Just then, Li Yunqing spoke up. "This is to train you to battle Wild Beasts. Don't worry too much; how you fight is up to you."
Shi Hao turned to look at his companions from Shi Village and noticed their curious gazes directed at him, seemingly questioning why he wasn't taking action against the Wild Beast.
Little One patted his head and glanced at the Mountain Bull with a curious expression. He raised his fist but hesitated to strike.
Wild Beasts constantly engage in fierce battles, growing stronger with each encounter; it’s either you eat them or they eat you. Thus, while Wild Beasts are ferocious, not all of them are inherently brutal. The Shan Niu is one such Wild Beast that does not possess a savage nature.
The term "Shan Niu" is a name given by humans, and generally, people do not provoke them when they encounter one. Even other Wild Beasts tend to avoid confrontation with the Shan Niu. The horns of the Shan Niu are exceptionally long and massive, nearly half the length of its body. Coupled with their larger size compared to other Wild Beasts, it’s no wonder they inspire fear.
Shan Niu primarily grow stronger while sleeping. Their energy consumption is low during rest, yet they can absorb significant amounts of energy through their bodies, allowing them to quickly enhance their strength. Their size increases with their power; the Shan Niu before us is still young and has only recently begun to sleep.
This affinity for sleep means that when they rest for extended periods, their massive bodies can become covered in soil, making them resemble small hills. The name "Shan Niu" comes from the first person who saw one; they mistook it for a mountain rising suddenly, only to realize it was a cow.
Shi Hao sensed that the Wild Beast before him lacked any inherent brutality, but why would Uncle Yunqing seek out such a creature? Was he supposed to engage in battle with this Wild Beast? After multiple training sessions with Li Tianqi and Li Qinghu, he began to ponder Li Yunqing's thoughts.
Uncle Yunqing must know about my unique sensitivity to Wild Beasts; could that be the reason? So perhaps this encounter isn’t about fighting at all?
Little One climbed onto the head of the Shan Niu. The Shan Niu observed as Little One slowly made its way up without any reaction, simply watching quietly. Although its consciousness was weak while sleeping, it could vaguely recall many small creatures passing over it and carrying things on its back, so it didn’t mind Little One's presence.
Moo? It let out a soft sound, seemingly checking if Little One had made it up.
I’m up here! Da Niu Niu!
Moo. The Shan Niu glanced at the protective barrier, realizing it couldn’t leave anyway. It decided to go back to sleep. Goodnight.
The Shan Niu closed its eyes as if beginning its rest, leaving only the sound of breathing in the training ground.
The child looked at the scene in front of him with some confusion.
"Why aren't they fighting?" he wondered. "Is Little One afraid to fight? This Niu Niu doesn't seem to want to fight Little One either."
The adults from the Hunting Team watched their children and tapped them on the head. "We told you to study hard, yet you can't even recognize such a famous Wild Beast? This is a Shan Niu! There was once a village chief who built his home right next to a Shan Niu. No Wild Beast dared to approach that place for decades. It wasn't until the Shan Niu rose that people realized the village was actually built against the mountain, which was the Shan Niu itself."
The Shan Niu glanced at the people and then walked away. Soon after, without the presence of the Shan Niu's imposing aura, that village was crushed by Wild Beasts.
The children recalled what they had heard. "I remember! Aba used to tell us stories about this!" one exclaimed.
"I heard it too, but it was Ama who told me!" another chimed in.
"The village chief told us!" they all echoed.
Seeing that the children were starting to remember, the adults nodded in approval. "Do you remember what we said during story time? When you encounter a Shan Niu, you must not attack it. The Shan Niu has protected humans and has never attacked us, which is why there’s a rule in Da Huang Village against hunting Shan Niu!"
"But what does it mean that Li Yunqing brought back a Shan Niu?" The Hunting Team dared not ask or mention it; they knew Li Yunqing's strength was beyond their comparison.
Li Yunqing observed Little One and noted how well he interacted with the beast without any aggression. He nodded approvingly and waved his hand, dispelling the protective barrier.
The Shan Niu immediately noticed this and opened its eyes wide. Seeing that the barrier had vanished, it quickly stood up and cautiously lifted its foot to step over the people.
The villagers of Shi Village, who had not come to the training ground, also caught sight of the Shan Niu within their village.
"What is that? A Wild Beast has entered?"
Looking at those horns, which were as long as its body and adorned with earth and tree bark, they realized it was a Shan Niu!
"A Shan Niu? It came out from our village? So does that mean there are still Shan Niu in our village?"
