Ye Feihong conducted a careful observation of the surroundings. Soon, he discovered something intriguing. A vine was slowly moving, appearing to be motionless at first. It was only when a fly passed by that the vine quickly snatched it up, returning to its still state afterward.
Seeing this, Ye Feihong felt a surge of excitement. This was a Dark Matter—a vine capable of capturing its own food. If there were a few seeds of such vines nearby, it would be even better. Although this particular vine seemed weak, it could still be considered a decent plant for a Farmer in the early stages.
Even if these vines lacked the power to kill large Dark Matters, they could at least slow down their movements. Moreover, the vine's tendrils could potentially trap these Dark Matters. Ye Feihong immediately used his Monocular to closely examine the condition of the vine. It thrived in a very low-lying ruin.
The High-Rise Ruins where Ye Feihong currently resided were the highest point in the vicinity. Before the apocalypse struck, this area must have been formed by the collapse of Mi Gao's buildings. The place where the vine was located was much lower; before the end times, it likely consisted of just a small three or four-story house.
Although there were many walls obstructing the view, Ye Feihong was still able to make careful observations. The vine was no more than twenty meters long at most, posing little threat to him. It appeared to be a relatively weak Dark Plant.
After confirming the environment surrounding the vine and ensuring that his Peashooter could target its location, he climbed down from the ruins. He slowly approached the spot where the vine was located. Along the way, he found a long-abandoned iron rod, which had likely once been a handrail for a staircase years ago. He swung it a few times; the aluminum alloy material had not rusted into a pile of iron oxide over time. It was solid enough to serve as a tool.
Gripping the rod tightly, he made his way toward the vine. The purpose of this rod was not to fight the vine but to extract the fruit from it. The vine's attacking ability was primarily akin to that of a python, capable of wrapping around animals and suffocating them. One characteristic of plants is their weak sensory perception; they typically react only when something comes close to their bodies.
Ye Feihong approached slowly, deliberately reducing his pace to avoid causing vibrations in the ground that might alert the vine.
Ye Feihong pressed against the wall, gazing at the creeping vines.
Goodness.
Goodness.
Goodness.
Ye Feihong couldn't help but exclaim, relieved that he hadn't been careless. The vine was much larger than he had imagined. He had estimated its size from above, thinking it was only a few centimeters thick, at most twenty meters long. But reality was different.
In this low, dilapidated ruin, the ground area was small, but it housed several massive underground chambers. The entire vine extended from a basement that was over ten meters deep. What lay on the surface was merely a segment of its branch.
Such a large vine, and the basement was out of Peashooter's attack range. Ye Feihong immediately decided to retreat. Although he had already seen dozens of seeds at the center of the basement vine, he knew he wasn't a match for it yet and certainly wouldn't risk venturing into the underground ruins for just a few seeds.
Just as Ye Feihong was about to withdraw, a vine suddenly shot out and wrapped around his calf.
