Tong Le escorted Lan Qingqing to the entrance of the community, admiring her new car with a smile. "When did you buy a car? You didn’t even tell me."
Lan Qingqing beamed with pride. "I just got it a few days ago! I haven't had a chance to tell you yet. But it’s on loan; it makes getting around so much easier."
Tong Le understood well that this car must have been bought for Lan Qingqing by Ke Wenjie. Given Lan Qingqing's modest background, she certainly didn't have the means to purchase a new car on her own.
Lan Qingqing suddenly asked, "By the way, Lele, if you really are pregnant and they check this afternoon, are you planning to keep the baby or not?"
Tong Le replied firmly, "I won’t keep it. My mother-in-law has already made her stance clear; I wouldn’t dare go against that."
Lan Qingqing raised an eyebrow instinctively, probing further. "Your mother-in-law seems... special. Is she hard to get along with?"
Tong Le realized that Lan Qingqing was trying to gauge her situation, perhaps preparing for future maneuvering.
Feeling fortunate, Tong Le noted that she had never spoken ill of anyone in front of Lan Qingqing, including Zhang Huizhi.
With a smile, Tong Le said, "My mother-in-law just looks tough on the outside; she's actually quite nice. You see how well Ke Wenjie is doing? We don’t even have a maid at home because she doesn’t trust outsiders. Otherwise, she wouldn’t complain about me lying around all day. My mother-in-law is tough but has a soft heart; her insistence on me terminating the pregnancy is really for my health since I've been unwell lately."
Lan Qingqing nodded thoughtfully. "As long as you’re not feeling wronged, I’ll be at ease."
As Tong Le watched Lan Qingqing's car drive away from the community, her smile faded completely.
She took out her phone and dialed a number.
When the call connected, a bright voice came through. "What’s up, Tong Le? Missing me already?"
Tong Le hesitated before speaking. "Sister Wen, I need your help with something."
On the other end was Sister Wen, whose real name was Wen. True to her name, she was spirited and decisive in character, always getting things done quickly without any fuss.
Wen was older than Tong Le; she was in her thirties while Tong Le was still in her twenties.
Their acquaintance stemmed from a rather unique experience. Back when Tong Le was still managing the Tong Family business, Wen came to Tong Company seeking employment. After successfully landing the job, she grew increasingly fond of Tong Le and developed feelings for her.
Unable to contain her feelings any longer, Wen confessed her affection to Tong Le.
However, Tong Le had always been devoted only to Ke Wenjie and was not adept at handling romantic relationships. She was gentle and kind-hearted but couldn’t match Wen’s fiery spirit.
In a rather awkward situation, Tong Le reluctantly faced Wen. At that time, Tong Le was just twenty-one while Wen was twenty-five. Perhaps due to their youthful resonance or simply being young and impulsive, they often clashed.
During their first meeting, they ended up slapping each other and parted ways unhappily; during their second meeting, they pulled each other's hair and fought fiercely in an upscale restaurant until they were bloodied; by their third meeting at the Boxing Gym, despite knowing little about boxing, Tong Le still engaged in a fierce match with Wen.
Wen eventually conceded defeat; Tong Le won, and through those three intense encounters, they became best friends.
After that incident, Wen accepted her loss gracefully and left Tong Company.
Not only did Tong Le not hold anything against Wen, but she also secretly helped her by recommending good job opportunities. This became a turning point for Wen, leading to her future success.
When Wen asked Tong Le why she did this, Tong Le replied that it was because Wen was straightforward in her actions. She recognized right from wrong, loved openly, and did not resort to underhanded tactics.
Since the beginning of her memories, Tong Le had seen many women who threw themselves at men, some good and some bad, but none were quite like Wen.
Tong Le still remembered their first meeting when Wen said something that seemed reasonable yet infuriated Tong Le to the point of seeing stars. Wen had confessed, "I admit I have low standards; I like your dad, but I can't help it. I didn't seduce him or play any tricks; I just like him. I've even expressed my feelings and said I hope your dad divorces your mom. Whether he listens or not is his business."
After hearing those words, Tong Le couldn't hold back and slapped Wen. In return, Wen slapped her back without hesitation.
Looking back now, such actions and words could only come from someone like Wen. At this moment.
