At that moment, the Phantom Spirit Fox suddenly leaped onto Lin Yu's shoulder, letting out a sharp cry. Lin Yu immediately became alert. "There's danger!"
Before he could finish speaking, the ground began to tremble. The runes on the walls flickered erratically, and an energy barrier appeared at the end of the corridor.
"It's a defense mechanism!" Xing Yu shouted. "Be careful!"
Several beams of light shot out from the energy barrier, targeting Lin Yu and his companions. Instinctively, Lin Yu raised his hand, and a light shield materialized in front of them. However, the power of the beams exceeded their expectations, and cracks began to form in the shield.
"Let me handle this!" Old Mo stepped forward, his Wooden Staff glowing brightly. He quickly drew several complex runes, and the energy barrier suddenly changed color.
"Run!" Old Mo shouted. "I can only temporarily alter its attack mode!"
They hurried through the corridor as the energy barrier resumed its assault behind them. Lin Yu noticed that Old Mo's face had turned pale; clearly, his previous actions had drained a significant amount of energy.
After passing through the corridor, they arrived at a circular hall. In the center floated a massive crystal ball, which seemed to contain something sealed within.
"This is..." Xing Yu approached the crystal ball and gasped in shock. "It's the Original Energy Core!"
Lin Yu saw it too. Inside the crystal ball was a swirling mass of energy that shifted between flames, flowing water, and lightning.
"This is the core that maintains the operation of the Phantom Realm," Old Mo explained. "It is also the source of all energy."
At that moment, Lin Yu felt a burning sensation on his wrist where a mark was etched. He involuntarily moved toward the crystal ball and reached out his hand...
"Don't!" Xing Yu tried to stop him, but it was too late.
As soon as Lin Yu's hand touched the crystal ball, the entire hall was engulfed in blinding light. He felt an immense surge of energy flood into him, and his consciousness seemed to be pulled into a strange space.
In this space, he witnessed the complete history of the Phantom Realm: from its initial creation to unforeseen events and finally to the emergence of The Chosen One. He also saw a terrifying prophecy: every thousand years, the Original Energy Core would go out of control, leading to a Great Cataclysm. The only one who could stop it was The Chosen One.
When Lin Yu regained consciousness, he found himself floating in mid-air, enveloped in golden energy. Xing Yu and Old Mo looked at him in astonishment while the Phantom Spirit Fox jumped around excitedly.
"You...," Xing Yu said incredulously. "You've fused with part of the original energy!"
Lin Yu slowly descended to the ground, feeling an unprecedented power within him. He raised his hand, and a stream of golden energy danced in the air, shifting shapes at will.
"This is incredible," Old Mo said. "No one has ever been able to directly touch the Original Energy Core without being consumed."
Just then, an explosion echoed from the entrance of the hall. Members of the Shadow Council and Mechanical Cult had breached their defenses and rushed in.
"Hand over the Original Energy Core!" shouted the leader of the Shadow Council.
"No! It belongs to the Mechanical Cult!" retorted the leader of the Mechanical Cult.
The two factions immediately clashed, with energy beams and mechanical weapons intertwining throughout the hall. Lin Yu and his companions found themselves trapped in between, their situation perilous.
"We must stop them!" Xing Yu shouted. "If they destroy the Original Energy Core, the entire Phantom Realm will collapse!" Lin Yu took a deep breath, feeling the energy surging within him. He knew it was time to make a choice. He raised his hands, and golden energy formed a massive barrier in the air, separating the two fighting sides.
"Stop!" Lin Yu's voice echoed in the hall. "You don't understand what you're doing!"
Everyone was stunned by this sudden change. Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yu released the memories he had just acquired, displaying the history and prophecies of the Phantom Realm for all to see.
When the images ended, silence fell over the hall. Even the most fervent members of the Shadow Council showed expressions of shock.
"So...," murmured the leader of the Mechanical Cult, "the ultimate energy we have been searching for is actually the key to maintaining the existence of the Phantom Realm?"
Lin Yu nodded. "Yes. If you destroy it, not only will the Phantom Realm be annihilated, but the real world will also be affected."
The leader of the Shadow Council's expression shifted between hope and despair. "What about the Great Cataclysm? How do we stop it?"
Lin Yu looked at the crystal ball. "That is my mission. As The Chosen One, I must find a way to stabilize the Original Energy Core and prevent the Great Cataclysm from occurring."
Just then, the entire ruin began to shake violently. The energy within the crystal ball surged out of control, emitting blinding light.
"This is bad!" Xing Yu exclaimed. "The Original Energy Core is going haywire!"
Lin Yu felt a burning sensation on his wrist where his mark was located. He knew that critical moment had arrived. He approached the crystal ball and placed his hands on it, attempting to stabilize the runaway energy.
But at that moment, an unexpected voice rang out: "Finally, this moment has arrived."
Lin Yu turned to see Xing Yu's expression had become strangely unfamiliar. Her eyes had turned pure silver, surrounded by a powerful energy field.
"Xing Yu?" Old Mo asked incredulously.
"No," Xing Yu said coldly. "I am one of the original scientists who created the Phantom Realm. I have been waiting for The Chosen One to appear to complete the final experiment."
Lin Yu felt a chill run down his spine. "The final experiment?"
"Yes," Xing Yu replied. "The Phantom Realm was never an accident. It is a vast energy testing ground, and the Great Cataclysm is its final phase. Only through destruction can we obtain true energy essence!"
Chaos erupted in the hall. Lin Yu knew he faced a difficult choice: to follow Xing Yu's instructions and complete the experiment or risk everything to prevent the Great Cataclysm.
Standing before the rampaging Original Energy Core, Lin Yu felt his own energy surging within him. Xing Yu—or rather, the Ancient Scientist occupying her body—was watching him with cold eyes.
"Do you understand now, The Chosen One?" her voice echoed in the hall. "Your existence is for this moment. Complete the experiment, and we will gain ultimate energy essence!"
Lin Yu took a deep breath, striving to calm himself. "What about the lives in Phantom Realm? What about reality? Will you so easily decide to destroy them?"
"Sacrifice is necessary," Xing Yu insisted unwaveringly, "for a greater goal. Think about it—if we grasped the essence of energy, we could create countless new worlds!"
Old Mo stepped forward, his voice filled with anger. "You are insane! Those are living beings!"
Xing Yu let out a cold laugh. "Being emotional. That's why we need The Chosen One—a pure vessel of energy, unaffected by emotions."
