The next morning, Li Chen and Lin Yao set off on their journey to find a shelter. The wind and snow outside continued to rage, and the temperature was so low that it was almost impossible to breathe. They donned thick cotton coats, wrapped scarves around their necks, and put on gloves to minimize any exposed skin against the biting cold.
"Do you know the exact location of the shelter?" Lin Yao walked beside Li Chen, her voice trembling slightly in the cold wind.
"The general direction is towards the city center's Old Industrial Area," Li Chen replied. "There's an abandoned subway station there, and the shelter is located beneath it."
Lin Yao nodded, her eyes shining with a hint of hope. "That sounds good; we need to get there quickly."
Li Chen knew that the journey would not be easy. The Ice Age Apocalypse had turned the entire city into a strange and dangerous place. The streets were covered with thick snow, buildings could collapse at any moment, not to mention the crazed survivors and wild animals that had emerged in this new world.
They proceeded cautiously along the street, carefully avoiding potential dangers. Li Chen held a handgun in his hand, his only means of defense. Lin Yao carried a wooden stick; although it looked somewhat crude, any weapon could be life-saving in such an environment.
"Be careful!" Lin Yao suddenly stopped and whispered.
Li Chen immediately became alert as he noticed shadows moving ahead on the street. A group of people dressed in tattered clothing wielded various weapons, appearing to be a gang of survivors.
"They look like raiders," Li Chen said quietly. "They might be scavenging for supplies."
Lin Yao nodded, her expression turning wary. "We need to go around them."
They carefully navigated past the group and continued on their way. Li Chen understood that this was just a small danger in the Ice Age Apocalypse; the road ahead would be even more challenging.
"Do you think we can find that shelter?" Lin Yao suddenly asked.
Li Chen lifted his gaze to the snow-covered city ahead, filled with uncertainty. But he knew they had to believe in themselves and in the existence of that shelter.
"We will find it," he said firmly. "As long as we don't give up."

On their way to the shelter, Li Chen and Lin Yao encountered another group of raiders. These individuals looked menacing, armed with various weapons, clearly intent on seizing their supplies.
"Hand over your things, or don't blame us for being rude!" a burly man shouted as he swung an axe.
Li Chen and Lin Yao exchanged glances; they knew that a direct confrontation could cost them their lives. Li Chen whispered to Lin Yao, "We need to find a way around them."
Lin Yao nodded and scanned their surroundings, spotting a narrow alley nearby. She grabbed Li Chen's hand and quickly led him toward it. Using the cover of the alley, they successfully evaded the raider gang.
"That was close," Li Chen wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. "Those people are too dangerous."
Lin Yao agreed with a nod. "We have to be careful; people like that are everywhere."
As they continued on their path, Li Chen and Lin Yao discovered an injured elderly man lying in the snow, shivering from the cold—clearly lost in this apocalyptic world.
"What should we do?" Lin Yao looked at Li Chen, her eyes filled with hesitation.
Li Chen knew that helping the old man might deplete their precious resources, but he couldn't bear to turn a blind eye to a helpless life.
"Let's take him with us," Li Chen said. "At least it will help him survive."
Lin Yao nodded, understanding that Li Chen's decision was the right one. They carefully helped the old man to his feet and continued on their way. Although the journey became more difficult, their hearts felt a warmth they hadn't anticipated.
The wind and snow showed no signs of letting up, and Li Chen and Lin Yao's footsteps felt particularly heavy in the thick snow. They had been walking for an entire day, but there was still a long way to go before reaching the Old Industrial Area in the city center. Lin Yao occasionally glanced back at the old man; his frail body seemed to expend its last bit of strength with each step.
"We need to find a place to rest," Li Chen said, stopping to catch his breath. His exhalations turned into puffs of white mist in the cold air, quickly forming a thin layer of frost on his face.
Lin Yao nodded and looked around, trying to find somewhere sheltered from the wind. Not far away, a partially collapsed building came into view. Though dilapidated, it could at least provide some protection from the storm.
They trudged through the snow to reach the building. Pushing open the door revealed an abandoned supermarket, shelves toppled over and goods scattered across the floor, but the thick glass doors could still block some of the cold wind.
"This should be a good place to take shelter for now," Li Chen said as he set down his backpack and began to assess their surroundings. Lin Yao carefully helped the old man to a corner, allowing him to lean against a pile of broken shelves.
"Are you okay?" Lin Yao asked softly, reaching out to feel the old man's forehead.
The old man slightly opened his eyes and offered a faint smile of gratitude. "Thank you... my name is Zhao Ming, I'm a retired worker."
"Don't worry; we'll take you with us," Li Chen said as he pulled out some food and water from his backpack and handed it to Zhao Ming. "Eat something first; it will warm you up."
Zhao Ming took the food with trembling hands and began to eat. Li Chen and Lin Yao sat beside him; though exhausted, they felt an added sense of responsibility.
"We need to find a shelter quickly," Lin Yao whispered, her eyes reflecting concern. "It's too dangerous outside."
Li Chen nodded; he knew she was right. They had to locate that underground shelter as soon as possible; otherwise, not only would Zhao Ming struggle to hold on, but they themselves might also fall into despair.
"We'll set out first thing in the morning," Li Chen said as he stood up and brushed off the snow from his clothes. "We can't stay here too long."
