Upon entering the study, he saw Lin Zhen seated at the desk, deeply engrossed in reviewing a mountain of memorials. Not wanting to disturb him, Lin Feng approached quietly and bowed respectfully, saying, "Father, I have something to report."
Lin Zhen did not lift his head but casually replied, "Speak."
Taking a deep breath, Lin Feng continued in a calm voice, "Today while handling affairs, I unexpectedly discovered that numerous bizarre missing person cases have occurred in Linbo County. Moreover, similar situations have arisen in surrounding areas as well. After conducting an investigation and analysis, I believe there is something suspicious about this matter; hence I came to report it to you."
Hearing this, Lin Zhen slightly raised his head and glanced at Lin Feng before leisurely saying, "So you are already aware."
Lin Feng was taken aback by this response; he couldn't grasp the meaning behind those words at first. Did Father already know about this? He blurted out, "Father, you knew about this matter long ago?"
Lin Zhen slowly set down the memorial in his hand, stretched lazily, took a sip from his teacup, and then replied unhurriedly, "Indeed, I was already aware of this matter. Previously, I had ordered Cheng Chuhe to investigate thoroughly; however, after an entire period passed, there were still no leads or clues to follow."
"Coincidentally, he has left for another urgent matter now. After much thought, I decided to let you take over this case and continue the investigation."
Lin Feng furrowed his brows tightly and said with a serious expression, "Father, such a large number of missing cases concentrated in one area cannot simply be explained as coincidence. There must be a significant conspiracy or unspeakable secrets hidden within."
Lin Zhen nodded, his expression serious as he instructed, "It is precisely for this reason that I entrust this important task to you. You must spare no effort to uncover the truth and restore peace to the people!"
"Understood."
Then, Lin Zhen carefully took out a gleaming golden plaque from his robe. The plaque was about the size of a hand, made of high-quality material with exquisite craftsmanship. It was intricately engraved with the words "As if I were present," written in four powerful golden characters that shimmered with an aura of immense authority and power.
"Take this with you; it will be useful wherever you go. But remember, it must be returned to me once your task is complete," Lin Zhen advised earnestly, personally handing the plaque to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng respectfully accepted the plaque with both hands and bowed his head in response, "Yes."
