Curiosity piqued, he turned his head, eyes following the Smart Mini Robot. He watched as the little creature found a pillar and ascended at a ridiculous ninety-degree angle, faster than a gecko could climb, before disappearing from sight.
Xu Lie waited for the news that the Smart Mini Robot had disabled the surveillance cameras before confidently stepping out of the elevator and striding toward the front door. Two members of the Plainclothes Team were led to the back door by a nurse, keeping a considerable distance from the front, so there were no unexpected encounters as Xu Lie smoothly exited the outpatient department.
Just two seconds after stepping outside, he was captured on camera by a drone hovering above, transmitting footage back to the Special Investigation Team's computer. Utilizing facial recognition technology, his identity was confirmed at lightning speed.
Zhang Yutao urgently instructed the last member of the Plainclothes Team stationed at the front door to move in for an arrest and requested everyone to gather at the front. Xu Lie, however, was oblivious to the presence of the Plainclothes Team; they were well-trained and kept their heads down, engrossed in their phones, not approaching him at all.
Instead, they moved left and right. From the aerial perspective of the onlookers, it became evident that Xu Lie and the Plainclothes Team were closing in on each other.
"Wow, he's the last one! If he dodges this, he can escape!"
"The guy has done his best; with drones flying overhead, there’s nothing he released that can disrupt them."
"It just shows how meticulous the production team is; a Special Investigation Team of this caliber should be thorough—there shouldn’t be any loopholes."
"Closer now, closer! Is he about to be caught?!"
Occasionally glancing at Danmaku's Xu Lie revealed that there was still one last member of the Plainclothes Team. It seemed that his plan to run out first and then intentionally return to get caught was no longer viable. Rather than being chased down by the Plainclothes Team and possibly getting shot, it would be better to maintain his composure and surrender willingly; after all, being captured was his core objective.
However, he wasn't sure how much that would enhance his personal reputation.
With his thoughts quickly organized, Xu Lie turned around to face a burly man who was getting closer while seemingly distracted by his phone: "Stop pretending and don’t make any sudden moves. I’m here to surrender, not to suffer. If I feel uncomfortable at all, I won’t disclose where I’ve hidden any bombs."
When Xu Lie revealed their identity with those words, the Plainclothes Team hesitated for a moment but then lunged forward to restrain him. They aimed to control his arms but paused upon hearing Xu Lie's next statement.
Suddenly cautious, they could only stare intently at him while one hand appeared to reach into a pocket for something.
"Don’t worry," Xu Lie said slowly as he explained himself to the Plainclothes Team. "I’m being sincere here; I have a gun in my hand. If I had fired a shot at your drone before coming out, I would have disabled your aerial surveillance."
As the gunfire sparked panic among the crowd, chaos erupted, and people rushed out in a frenzy. At that moment, how could you, without facial recognition, possibly catch me in the midst of such a disordered throng?
Regardless of the burly man in front of me or Zhang Yutao, who was listening to the situation through his earpiece, everyone fell into silence.
There was nothing to say. Xu Lie was absolutely right; if even a minor disturbance occurred, he could easily slip away amidst the chaos. His choice not to do so spoke volumes about his sincerity.
The Special Investigation Team had no doubts about Xu Lie deceiving them. The nurse at the clinic's back door had provided numerous details, including the fact that Xu Lie was armed.
Xu Lie patted his side: "Are you coming to get it yourself, or should I hand it to you?"
The Plainclothes Team hesitated; either choice seemed fraught with potential mishaps. Before they could think further, Xu Lie casually pulled out his gun, causing the Plainclothes Team to break into a cold sweat as they instinctively reached for their own weapons, only to see a dark object flying towards their faces in a parabolic arc.
When the Plainclothes Team caught it and took a look, they were astonished—it was identical to their own sidearm!
Xu Lie maintained his confident demeanor: "During the previous two explosions, I didn't harm anyone, and I won't do so now."
I certainly didn't want to witness any turmoil that could lead to a disastrous stampede.
