After two hours of careful consideration, Xu Lie ultimately chose "Cang Hai Jue." The reason was quite simple: this script had the potential for some excitement, while the other two were too limiting for his performance.
The story of "Cang Hai Jue" is straightforward. It takes place in an ancient feudal dynasty where a prince schemes to usurp the crown prince's position. However, this foolish prince does not gather allies; instead, he chooses to win over martial arts sects. Coincidentally, the small sect that the protagonist belongs to refuses to serve a prince with a bad reputation and faces retaliation as a result. The small sect cannot withstand the pressure, and the protagonist accidentally falls into a river, leading to an unexpected adventure where he acquires extraordinary skills.
Upon re-entering the martial world, the protagonist navigates through conflicts between good and evil while gradually aligning himself with the crown prince's faction to confront the foolish prince. In the end, he defeats the Villain Prince and becomes a legendary hero who retreats to the mountains.
After reading through the detailed script, Xu Lie felt a tingling sensation on his scalp, as if someone were grinding a pound of chili peppers against his forehead. What an absurd plot! Was it really that awkward? Why would a prince want to mingle in the martial world? How could martial arts sects possibly assist him in such a grand scheme?
He ignored the court officials and made no effort to connect with military leaders or powerful families within the feudal dynasty. Was this really all there was? Did he truly believe he could seize power? Relying on those martial artists? Could they help him govern a region or command soldiers?
Rather than depending on these martial experts, it would be better to find a cool place to lie down and dream about everything. The protagonist was equally ridiculous, drifting along without any real thoughts of his own, merely being pushed along by the plot.
If the protagonist sought revenge for his sect against the prince, that would be somewhat understandable. However, after acquiring extraordinary skills, he initially did not confront the prince but instead wandered through the martial world for some time. It was only after experiencing several incidents involving the prince's attempts to recruit martial artists that he stumbled into conflict with him.
Xu Lie's first impression after finishing was that something had to change. If nothing was done and this drama aired as is, even achieving an average rating would be considered a testament to this audience's patience.
As a side note, in company scripts, actors can freely choose to portray any well-known character from the scripts or create their own character and write their background. This includes playing the protagonist; however, it is advised that no company actors take on the roles of male or female leads.
Due to the immense limitations, playing the main character was different from other roles. Everything had to follow the script; the actors performed as the script dictated. There was no room for creative freedom, as it was generally advised against taking on the lead role.
Xu Lie had never intended to play the main character; he was meant for the role of Chong Prince. This kind of antagonist had a rich background, and as long as one used their brain, causing trouble was not a problem at all.
After selecting the script, Xu Lie did not rush to spend points on items. Instead, he chose to return to a Script World. The backdrop of Cang Hai Jue was set in ancient times with a low martial arts power system. In such a world, no matter how powerful one was, they could be taken down with a single shot.
Thinking about causing some chaos, Xu Lie attempted to develop some firearms from ancient times. Even if he couldn't produce guns, he could at least search for scientific technologies that could be applied in an ancient setting. It wouldn't do to buy every technology from the company, right?
However, the results disappointed Xu Lie. In the world of Not Allowed to Fall in Love, he accessed the networked computer of a biological laboratory and was overwhelmed by the dense industrial knowledge that appeared in his search results. Forget modern firearms; even producing old matchlock guns required a complete set of related industrial systems.
