After just having a meal with Lu Youyou, Xu Lie felt a genuine sense of relaxation wash over him, as if he had regained his vitality and was ready to face the next performance. 0

Upon returning to the company, Xu Lie selected the script for Black and White, which unfolded in front of him with more detail than the synopsis. The story was set in a modern world, reminiscent of Xu Lie's previous life and the universe of Not Allowed to Fall in Love. It took place in a large city called Metropolis, one of the first-tier cities belonging to the Great Federation. 0

Don't ask why the city was named that way, and certainly don't question why it's called the Great Federation; the world is different, and that's just how it is there. The underbelly of Metropolis was dark and dangerous, with its gangs being far more terrifying than one might imagine due to the era's backdrop. 0

All conventional criminal activities were present, and it was unnecessary to elaborate further; the gangs in Metropolis even secretly controlled a portion of arms trafficking. They could spend vast sums of money to bribe politicians and cultivate their own allies within the government. 0

Where there is darkness, there is also light. The protagonist, a young man named William, was filled with a sense of justice. As a newcomer in the Investigation Bureau, he immediately got involved in a major case investigating high-level gang operations related to arms trafficking. 0

The confrontations in Black and White were rife with gunfights—an everyday occurrence—complete with undercover agents and plot twists, all intertwined with crime and suspense as the story progressed layer by layer, resulting in numerous casualties on both sides. William transformed from a clumsy rookie into a skilled veteran detective. 0

The story's conclusion was deeply ironic; after navigating through numerous challenges, William finally obtained concrete evidence linking a member of the Metropolis council to the criminal activities. In an effort to eradicate the city's cancerous elements, he and his partners sought out this politician's enemies to present their findings, hoping to dispel the darkness. 0

However, an unexpected turn occurred when a higher-up from the Arms Company intervened, closing the case abruptly. The financial consortium also stepped in, leading to an arrangement where the Arms Company paid a price to maintain the status quo. In the end, Metropolis remained as it was—a city where darkness coexisted with light—and nothing truly changed. 0

As Xu Lie read through the script's details, he felt a headache coming on. What kind of ending was this? Would audiences find it satisfying? If one had to describe it, it could be seen as a satire on societal issues within film and television drama. 0

Yet Xu Lie found it difficult to predict whether such an ironic conclusion would resonate with most viewers. Some might appreciate this ending for its powerful exposure of corruption within Metropolis's judicial system—a sharp critique that struck at societal ills; while others might feel disillusioned that after all William's efforts throughout the series, nothing had changed—wasn't that just a waste of time? 0

It was indeed a challenging dilemma. Xu Lie rubbed his nose thoughtfully and acknowledged his company's rating of this script: utterly disgusting. The plot wasn't necessarily dangerous; even if those gangsters pulled out rocket launchers, it would still be just another day for Xu Lie. 0

The real challenge lies in the plot and the ending. If not handled well, even if Xu Lie puts in a stellar performance throughout the entire show, deeply resonating with the audience, the overall rating is unlikely to be very high. 0

It is clear that the script offers Xu Lie two paths: one leading to the light of righteousness, and the other to the darkness of shadows. Xu Lie can choose to join the Investigation Bureau, fighting alongside the protagonist William, gathering evidence, defeating villains, and ultimately needing to guard against the Arms Company, which has the potential to uproot the Metropolitan Mafia. 0

Alternatively, he could opt for the gang's camp. With a thorough understanding of the script, he could ensure that evidence does not fall into the hands of those from the Investigation Bureau, thereby remaining invincible. 0

The former option is challenging but allows for personal ratings to shine in front of the audience. The latter is simpler; it requires little effort—just protecting the evidence in hand and then coasting through to victory. 0

The main issue is that Xu Lie neither favors the former nor the latter. The first option is far too passive; he would have no control over his fate, relying entirely on the higher-ups at the Arms Company. Xu Lie is not someone who would entrust his destiny to others. If he had such a personality, he would have surrendered Test Tube Technology at the very start of the first Script World instead of needing to orchestrate three explosions. 0

The latter option feels too cowardly—coasting through? 0
