I admit, last week I was thoroughly entertained by Beric, laughing so hard that my mother asked if I was raising geese in my room.
In the Third Episode, I came to claim first place.
Initially, judging by the title and the protagonist's character, I thought it would be a traditional story about leveling up through battles. Instead, it turned out to be the story of the founding of the first magic school in the mainland, which unexpectedly made me want to keep watching.
The vast Danmaku affected the wizards who didn’t queue up to register, and it also impacted Reiner, who was reluctant to put in the effort to sign up.
Reiner felt deeply impressed by Xu Lie's greatness and willingly offered his help. He chatted happily with the wizards around him, feeling that he was partaking in something particularly meaningful and historically significant.
His work felt much more invigorating.
However, a familiar wizard next to Reiner glanced down at the chessboard on his left and suddenly noticed a few dots appearing: "Oh, Reiner. Isn’t this the Mage's Seeking Board you came to find me about that day? It seems there are still some wizards left out who haven’t been invited by you all."
Reiner paused his writing and looked over as well, then set down his pen: "There's nothing we can do; some of you are just too transient."
"Everyone, please understand; let me step away for a moment to fetch them."
Currently, there were too few wizards around, so relationships among them were relatively good. Even when encountering unfamiliar wizards occasionally, they would nod and greet each other—of course, excluding the Evil Mage.
Thus, the wizards waiting in line behind didn’t have much objection. Those who had already registered pressed Reiner: "If we go, don’t keep everyone waiting."
Reiner thought about it and agreed; someone should go fetch them. Just as he was about to nod in agreement, Xu Lie approached him: "Don’t go fetch them. These are all Evil Mages. Reiner, why not test your Firepower Coverage?"
"Weren't you always looking for a place to test the Thunder Magic you obtained from the Gate of Truth?"
Xu Lie’s words immediately put all the surrounding wizards on high alert. Several wizards skilled in direct combat even began to ready their weapons.
For any righteous wizard, there was zero tolerance for Evil Mages. Many had witnessed numerous tragic scenes during their travels across the mainland—like villages completely slaughtered by Evil Mages just to collect blood for their dark arts.
The Evil Mage maliciously collected Living Souls, creating thousands of Living Dead to conduct a Magic Ritual. They captured Ordinary People, subjecting them to countless tortures solely to study the Negative Malice experienced by humans on the brink of death. Such heinous acts were deeply detestable, prompting other mages to slay them on sight, showing no mercy to these beings that could hardly be considered their kin.
Xu Lie organized the Xanliu Association two months in advance, primarily to expedite the construction of the Logistics Base, with no time to waste. Another subtle reason was to set a trap for the Evil Mage. Let’s not forget that in traditional heroic tales like Burning Fire, any major event attended by the protagonist is bound to be fraught with danger.
Seventy years had passed without any Evil Mage daring to provoke the Mage Zhanliu Association. Yet, in this particular session attended by the protagonist, an Evil Mage was indeed planning an attack. The Evil Mage would spend two months secretly preparing the Evil Magic Circle at the location of the Xanliu Association near Three Mountains and Two Lakes, intending to ensnare all mages in one fell swoop.
Of course, in the original script, the conclusion was always that good triumphed over evil, with the Evil Mage being utterly defeated. Additionally, the protagonist Jiao Beili Ke would rise to prominence, overcoming evil in a classic narrative. It was unclear whether the Evil Mage was simply foolish or overly arrogant, daring to confront thousands of mages with just a handful of followers. Regardless, Xu Lie viewed all of them as being affected by Beric's Protagonist Aura, which diminished their intelligence from a distance.
