A cold glint flashed in Su Jiu'er’s eyes, yet the dagger did not fall.
Suddenly, she burst into laughter, as if the ice and snow had melted away. “I was just teasing you; look how scared you are!”
Lin Yuan hadn’t had time to breathe a sigh of relief when an alarm blared suddenly. The lights in the Experimental Base's Core Laboratory area flickered wildly, red beams flashing like the eyes of a demon, sending chills down one’s spine.
“Not good, it’s a trap! I knew that Old Witch had something up her sleeve, what kind of trick is this!” Lin Yuan shouted, cursing himself for being careless and letting Su Jiu'er pull one over on him.
Before he could finish his words, five elite Guards in black combat suits emerged from the shadows, surrounding them completely. These five were like unsheathed swords, exuding an aura of deadly intent that made it clear they were not to be trifled with.
The leader, Captain of the Guards Leng Feng, had sharp eyes like those of a hawk and a cold smirk on his lips, resembling a hungry wolf eyeing its prey. “Lin Yuan, you really did come. We’ve been waiting for you!”
Lin Yuan activated his Gazing Ability, sensing the Spiritual Energy Fluctuation of the five Guards surging like a tidal wave, overwhelming and imposing. Especially Leng Feng; his Lingqi burned like a raging flame, fierce and violent—clearly a formidable opponent.
“Wow, these guys have such strong Lingqi! What’s there to be afraid of? Let’s just go for it!” Old Wang shouted excitedly, his energy gun glowing with readiness.
“Old Wang, Xiao Li, A Qiang, cover me!” Lin Yuan commanded in a low voice as he activated his Time Manipulator. Suddenly, time froze around him. It was as if the world had been paused; everything stood still while only Lin Yuan could move freely.
He quickly assessed the situation and activated his Material Decomposition Ability, breaking down the metal laboratory tables into energy and condensing them into several sharp Energy Blades that shimmered with an eerie blue light—like the scythes of death—silently shooting towards the Guards.
As time resumed its flow, the Energy Blades sliced through the air like lightning with a sharp whistle, striking two Guards. Boom! Boom! Two loud explosions echoed as the Guards were sent flying, turning into fireballs amidst their screams that filled the laboratory.
“Wow! Brother Yuan’s move is so cool! Absolutely amazing!” Old Wang shouted excitedly as he fired his energy gun continuously to suppress the remaining Guards. The energy bullets streaked through the air like meteors trailing long tails of light and death towards their enemies.
Su Jiu'er joined the battle, her dagger dancing in her hand like a serpent, entangled with one of the Guards. The clash of blades and the glint of cold light filled the air as Su Jiu'er moved gracefully, resembling a butterfly in flight, yet hiding lethal intent beneath her delicate exterior.
Zhou Haoran utilized High-Tech Medical Equipment to provide treatment and support for his injured teammates. Streams of green light shot from the Medical Equipment, enveloping the wounded comrades and swiftly mending their injuries.
Leng Feng's strength far surpassed that of the other Guards. He moved like a wraith, elusive and unpredictable, dodging Lin Yuan's Energy Blade. In an instant, he closed the distance to Lin Yuan, his Lingqi transforming into a sharp longsword that glimmered with cold light, aimed directly at Lin Yuan's heart.
"Just what I wanted! Let's see what you've got!" Lin Yuan advanced instead of retreating, a glimmer of excitement flashing in his eyes. The Time Manipulator activated once more, freezing time again. The world fell silent, with only Lin Yuan and Leng Feng remaining still as if they were statues.
Lin Yuan decomposed Leng Feng's Spiritual Qi Longsword into pure Lingqi, absorbing it into his body to convert it into his own energy. Then, he unleashed a powerful punch that struck Leng Feng squarely in the chest. This blow contained all of Lin Yuan's strength, unstoppable like a cannonball.
As time resumed its flow, Leng Feng was struck as if by lightning, spitting out blood and flying backward, crashing through the laboratory's Glass Wall and landing in the corridor outside, unconscious and uncertain of his fate.
"Captain!" The remaining Guards gasped in shock and rushed forward, their eyes filled with fear and anger.
Lin Yuan sneered, "You think you can stop me with your pathetic ranks? What a foolish dream!"
He activated his Material Decomposition Ability again, breaking down various equipment in the laboratory into energy and forming a massive energy sphere that floated in midair. The energy sphere radiated dazzling light, resembling a miniature sun that illuminated the entire laboratory.
"What... what is this? What kind of monster is this?" The Guards stared at the energy sphere in terror, feeling the terrifying power it contained, their legs trembling beneath them.
A cold glint flashed in Lin Yuan's eyes. "Here’s a little gift for you! Hope you enjoy it!"
He compressed the energy sphere into a high-density Energy Bomb and hurled it toward the Guards. The Energy Bomb sliced through the air with a piercing shriek, soaring toward the enemy like a shooting star.
Boom! A deafening explosion erupted as the Energy Bomb detonated, releasing a blinding light that shook the entire laboratory violently, as if an earthquake had struck.
After the explosion, the lab was left in ruins, smoke swirling in the air, and all the Guards lay sprawled on the ground, their fates unknown.
Lin Yuan and his companions were also affected by the Shockwave, stumbling back a few steps, but fortunately, they remained unharmed.
“Phew, finally dealt with them. These guys were quite a handful!” Lin Yuan sighed in relief. However, the prolonged use of the Time Manipulator and Material Decomposition Ability left him feeling weak and dizzy.
At that moment, a strange noise echoed from deep within the laboratory, resembling a beast's low growl, sending chills down their spines.
“What was that sound? What’s making that noise?” Xiao Li asked warily, gripping her psychic gun tightly, her expression tense.
Lin Yuan's expression changed as he sensed that things were not as simple as they seemed.
“Be careful; there might be a more powerful enemy! Everyone stay alert!” he said in a low voice, filled with unease.
The large door at the back of the laboratory slowly creaked open, revealing a mysterious figure standing before them…
