Everyone watched with bated breath, their faces tense and anxious.
The sea surged violently, continuing for several minutes before crashing back into the ocean, creating massive waves that soared several meters high. Black Dragon Island appeared to have suffered a catastrophe; the trees had been swept away, leaving only bare rocks behind.
On the rocks, Gu Yun Nan and Tu Li stood facing each other, their clothes soaked through. The surface of the sea gradually calmed, and the people on the cruise ship craned their necks to see what was happening.
"What’s going on?" Seeing Gu Yun Nan and Tu Li in a standoff, both silent and the atmosphere heavy, confusion spread among the crowd.
Suddenly, after a few minutes, Tu Li spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to his knees.
"You've lost," Gu Yun Nan said, his face pale but maintaining his composure.
"I have not lost," Tu Li replied, wiping the sticky blood from the corner of his mouth with a cold smile.
"Do you need me to kill you for you to accept your defeat?" Gu Yun Nan's expression darkened; it was clear who had won, yet Tu Li still refused to concede.
"You can't kill me," Tu Li's crimson eyes glared at Gu Yun Nan like a venomous snake. He then began rummaging through his clothes. Exhausted, it took him a long time to finally pull out a pill wrapped in tin foil. Without hesitation, he swallowed it whole.
"What are you doing?" Gu Yun Nan's expression grew serious. He had already exhausted all his energy using the formation earlier; standing now was merely by sheer willpower. If anything went wrong again, he might be in grave danger.
After taking the pill, Tu Li's veins bulged as if he had been reinvigorated. Though he had been on the brink of death moments ago, he now radiated an even more formidable aura than before.
Instinctively stepping back a few paces, Gu Yun Nan took out a Jade Talisman he had hidden close to him and held it tightly. Something was amiss; Tu Li's sudden transformation forced Gu Yun Nan to be on guard.
Yet deep down, Gu Yun Nan felt uncertain. Tu Li looked desperate; the pill he had taken was suspicious. Although Gu Yun Nan knew that Tu Li was merely prolonging his life at this point and that the effects of the pill would ultimately harm him—leading to certain death once its potency wore off—he still had to take this threat seriously. A cornered animal is most dangerous.
Tu Li stood up with a grotesque expression, as if he had been inflated with air, looking terrifyingly powerful.
"Gu Yun Nan, it is you who will be defeated," Tu Li rasped, his voice hoarse yet tinged with madness.
"You are truly insane," Gu Yun Nan frowned and retorted angrily.
"A dying man dares to offend me," Tu Li bared his teeth as dark energy surged around him. With a wave of his hand, the black mist lifted stones from the ground and hurled them at Gu Yun Nan.
Gu Yun Nan's face turned serious; he could not afford to be careless. As he retreated, he shouted coldly, "It seems I shouldn't have held back earlier; I should have killed you outright. But it doesn't matter—don’t think that just because you've taken some wicked drug you can turn this around. I can still kill you."
Gu Yun Nan stepped back more than ten paces, then bit down on his tongue, spitting out a drop of blood onto the Jade Talisman. This Jade Talisman was his life-saving treasure, and it was indeed extraordinary.
As the blood splattered onto the smooth, sheep-fat-like surface of the Jade Talisman, a brilliant white light erupted from it, almost overwhelming in its intensity. The Jade Talisman had been passed down to Gu Yun Nan by his master, who claimed it contained divine powers. Gu Yun Nan had always cherished it dearly, but now, in order to save his life, he had no choice but to use the Jade Talisman.
