Seeing Ni Xingyi speaking confidently in front of Jiang Chen, completely at ease, Qin Xusha felt a twinge of envy. Since they were only here for a vacation, she had no intention of discussing Jiang Chen's matters in depth. If Ni Xingyi learned more about him, she wondered if she would still be so open and unrestrained.
In a high-end restaurant by the Thames River, which offered a stunning view of the city skyline with the London Eye not far away, Ni Xingyi brought Jiang Chen and the others to their table. In a corner by the window, they spotted the main character of the evening—a man with an Asian appearance.
This was John Li, the one Ni Xingyi was meeting today. His Chinese name was Li Wenhou. Li Wenhou's parents were from Hong Kong Island and had settled in Great Britain many years ago, now mingling among the so-called upper class there. He graduated from Oxford University and was now the head of a law firm, considered an elite with a high education. He had dated before, but most of those relationships were casual flings. However, he was genuinely interested in Ni Xingyi after having met her a few times.
“Miss Ni, I suppose this is our formal first meeting. I heard you like Blue Roses,” Li Wenhou said as he presented her with a bouquet of Blue Roses, displaying his gentlemanly demeanor.
“Thank you,” Ni Xingyi replied with a slight smile as she accepted the flowers.
“Miss Ni, are these your friends?” Li Wenhou glanced at Jiang Chen and the others, though his gaze lingered more on the two beautiful women, Qin Xusha and Jiang Lu. Men often couldn’t help but steal glances at attractive women.
“Something like that,” Ni Xingyi replied lightly.
“Could you introduce them to me?” Li Wenhou asked with evident interest.
Ni Xingyi introduced each person one by one. Li Wenhou learned that Jiang Chen and Jiang Lu were siblings. He then looked at Jiang Chen and said with a smile, “It’s hard to believe that Mr. Jiang and Miss Jiang are actually siblings; they don’t seem related at all.”
“Of course we are,” Jiang Lu quickly interjected, not wanting anyone to know they had just met as siblings.
“I misspoke; Miss Jiang, you are so beautiful, yet your brother’s looks are rather ordinary—it’s quite strange,” Li Wenhou chuckled. From Ni Xingyi's earlier introduction, he could tell that she and Jiang Chen were not close; they had only just met. Moreover, Jiang Chen's appearance did not suggest he belonged to any upper class; his attire lacked taste and he seemed like an ordinary office worker. Thus, Li Wenhou didn’t take him seriously and thought it harmless to tease him.
“Hmph, you’re not that handsome either,” Jiang Lu retorted dismissively. It seemed he was judging based on looks alone. Given that they had just met as siblings, it was understandable they didn’t resemble each other. His directness was rather off-putting.
Jiang Chen remained silent; he simply wanted to enjoy his time without causing trouble. There was no need to engage with Li Wenhou.
Qin Xusha also found Li Wenhou’s comments unpleasant but chose not to say anything. She was merely here to play the role of a third wheel tonight and didn’t want to stir up trouble.
“Ha ha! Miss Jiang, you’re the first person to tell me I’m not handsome,” Li Wenhou said confidently, flashing a bright smile at Jiang Lu as if trying to win her over with his looks. However, Jiang Lu regarded him coldly.
“Judging people by their looks is too superficial; unless someone relies on their appearance for a living, there’s no need to care about looks,” Ni Xingyi remarked calmly.
