Mu Yunfan gathered the villagers in the central clearing of the village to discuss the care of their crops. The crowd sat in a circle, and Mu Yunfan spoke loudly, “Fellow Villagers, the new seeds have sprouted, and these seedlings are delicate and require careful attention. I propose we divide everyone into several small groups to take turns inspecting the fields. Our main tasks will be weeding and pest control, as well as preventing other creatures from damaging our crops. Does anyone have any objections?”
A middle-aged farmer scratched his head and stood up, saying, “Mu Gongzi, we have no objections, but we’re worried that we might not know how to identify pest damage and could delay our crops.”
Fu Xingchen chimed in, “Don’t worry, brother. Over the next few days, I and Brother Mu will teach everyone about common pests and how to deal with them. If you all pay attention, you’ll surely manage.”
In the following days, Fu Xingchen and Mu Yunfan began educating the villagers about pest knowledge. They brought in some samples of harmful insects and placed them on a wooden board for display. “Fellow Villagers, look at this bug; it’s entirely green with black spots and feeds on crop leaves. This is called the Green Spotted Bug. If you see it, you must quickly mix wood ash with water and spray it on the crops to drive them away.” As Fu Xingchen spoke and gestured, the villagers surrounded him, watching intently.
Meanwhile, Su Yizhi also had new developments on his side. The women had woven new cloth of excellent quality, and Su Yizhi planned to take samples to the city to discuss expanding orders with their previous business partner. Back in the village, the group responsible for crop care began their work. Every morning, they carried hoes and bamboo baskets to the fields. They bent down carefully to inspect each seedling; upon spotting weeds, they would bend over to pull them out with practiced ease. When encountering pests, they swiftly applied the methods taught by Fu Xingchen.
One day, a group of villagers discovered a large infestation of Green Spotted Bugs in the fields; it was an urgent situation. The group leader immediately sent one person back to notify Fu Xingchen while others attempted to drive them away. They sprayed wood ash water but found it ineffective due to the sheer number of bugs. Upon receiving word of the situation, Fu Xingchen hurried over. After observing for a moment, he shouted, “Everyone stay calm! First isolate the severely infested crops; then soak tobacco leaves in water as this will also help repel the Green Spotted Bugs.”
The villagers acted as instructed; some ran to collect tobacco leaves while others worked on isolating the crops. With everyone’s efforts combined, they finally managed to control the pest problem.
Meanwhile, Mu Yunfan was inspecting the progress of the new warehouse construction in the village. The main structure was complete, and workers were busy making internal adjustments. Mu Yunfan entered the warehouse to check if the floor was level and if the walls were sturdy. “Masters, this warehouse is crucial for our village’s harvest; we must ensure quality.”
One craftsman smiled in response, “Mu Gongzi, don’t worry; we are all experienced artisans; our work will be meticulous.”
Su Yizhi returned from the city with good news. The villagers, upon hearing that orders had increased significantly, cheered with joy. "Master Su, now we can earn even more money!" a young man exclaimed excitedly. Su Yizhi smiled and nodded, "That's right, but first we must ensure quality before increasing production."
Days passed, and under everyone's careful attention, the crops thrived. The new warehouse was also completely finished. The village was filled with vibrant energy, and the smiles on the villagers' faces grew even brighter, as if this world held only peace and harmony.
