Ancheng, the courthouse.
This place, long devoid of visitors, was suddenly flooded with a sea of people. Normally, the courthouse saw little to no traffic, but today it was bustling with an overwhelming crowd.
The noise and activity took the staff by surprise; many employees remarked that they had never seen such a large gathering since they started working there.
Why were there so many people?
Everyone from top to bottom was paying attention to this case, so it made sense that the turnout was high.
Indeed, in the past, there was only one machine for broadcasting the hearings, but now we needed several more. The leadership even contacted the service provider to ensure the servers were prepared; otherwise, the broadcast might have lagged.
Numerous media outlets set up their cameras and equipment at the front, eager to capture every moment, while supporters of Xu Lie were pushed back to the sidelines.
Among them were Lu Youyou, Lin Yuanliang, and Meng Ling.
The onlookers who came to witness the outcome of this explosive case didn’t mind standing at the back; they were simply there for the spectacle and to await a result.
Soon enough, the Special Investigation Team arrived with Xu Lie in custody. As they stepped out of the vehicle, countless camera flashes erupted like fireworks.
The intense strobe lights seemed blinding for both the Special Investigation Team and Xu Lie; Zhang Yutao and Xu Lie barely had time to squint against the brightness.
Over a dozen well-dressed reporters rushed forward with microphones: "Xu Lie, how do you feel about the support from Ancheng's four high schools?"
"What predictions does the Special Investigation Team have regarding today's hearing?"
"Did you really orchestrate the three bombings out of revenge?"
Zhang Yutao maintained a stoic expression as members of the Special Investigation Team formed a protective circle around them, escorting Xu Lie and his companions into the building.
Only Xu Lie seemed intrigued by it all: "The flashes are quite dazzling. As for the high school support, I’m grateful to them and pleased they recognize the errors in the New Marriage Law."
Before he could finish his thought, Zhang Yutao ushered him inside, cutting off any further interaction with reporters.
Lu Youyou stood nearby but couldn't push her way through; she felt anxious and wished she could get closer to speak with Xu Lie.
Fortunately, Meng Ling quickly reassured her: "There's no need to rush, Youyou. We can just attend as spectators. Even if you manage to get closer, the Special Investigation Team won’t let you talk."
During these past seven days, Meng Ling had learned about Lu Youyou's feelings for someone else and had become good friends with her; their relationship had improved significantly.
"The Eleventh Session is starting with the hearing; we finally made it to this moment."
"I still think Xu Lie's storyline is more compelling. The previous Ninth Session felt lacking without him."
"Not at all! I found the first two sessions quite interesting, especially when Lu Youyou visited three high schools alone—it was truly touching."
I think that part about Dai Shi Hui is quite something, with so many high schools and universities joining in, it's truly a spectacle.
Xu Lie walked forward while glancing at the Danmaku. Indeed, this was already the Eleventh Session. In the previous two sessions, Xu Lie had not appeared, and the focus shifted to the interactions between the boys and Lu Youyou.
The narrative primarily revolved around Lu Youyou visiting all the high schools in Ancheng, where she spoke about Xu Lie's character and aspirations, essentially advocating for him.
The first to be visited by Lu Youyou were Lin Yuanliang and Meng Ling. Given their own positions, they were among the first to support Lu Youyou's cause.
Lin Yuanliang and Meng Ling collaborated to rally a group of students within their school who secretly supported the Free Love movement, collectively drafting a petition.
This had significant implications; if it led to changes in the New Marriage Law, it was likely that their joint effort would be included in history textbooks a century from now. Thanks to Lin Yuanliang's school's students joining in, the other three high schools were finally persuaded by Lu Youyou to organize their own petitions as well.
