"Captain Chen!"
Wu Qianchuan greeted him as he approached. After three months, Chen Tao had become familiar with the Deputy Commander Wu Qianchuan, who was in charge of the Sailors.
"Brother Wu, how's the preparation going?"
"It's all set!" Wu Qianchuan exclaimed, pointing excitedly.
Chen Tao followed his gaze and saw three towering ships, like grand buildings on the sea, anchored steadily on the water's surface, their decks filled with Sailors.
Wu Qianchuan's excitement was palpable as he animatedly recounted, "Your Highness is truly extraordinary! The people at Xiacheng Shipyard said that without the blueprints provided by Your Highness, they could never have built such massive ships! With these great vessels, we will surely find the overseas Fortune Land and leave our names in history!"
Chen Tao couldn't get a word in as he was swept up in Wu Qianchuan's enthusiasm. It wasn't until they boarded the flagship that Wu Qianchuan finally let him go to signal the flag for departure.
"Captain Chen, you're coming along for this voyage too!"
"Hey now, don't push people again!"
"Hahaha! Are you afraid of being shoved into the sea?"
The surrounding Sailors were familiar with Chen Tao and spoke casually among themselves.
Chen Tao waved his hands repeatedly, "I’ve said it before; pushing people into the water was Your Highness's idea! It's to train you all to instinctively operate the Cang Hai Jue in emergencies!"
"I agree with this kind of training; that's why I pushed you."
"The sea can be unpredictable. A sudden storm could catch you off guard, and if you forget to activate the Cang Hai Jue while flailing about in panic after swallowing some seawater, it could mean disaster."
"Only by training until you can effortlessly operate the Cang Hai Jue at any moment can you truly safeguard your life on the ocean."
The Sailors were skeptical and began to believe that this was indeed Captain Chen's idea. "I don't believe it! Just last month I saw you laughing happily when the instructor pushed my brother!"
"Yeah, thanks to the instructor's training, now when I take a bath at home and touch water, I instinctively start practicing my techniques. I can't forget it no matter what!"
"Captain Chen, when will we strengthen our Zhen Qi? I'm progressing so slowly; at least I have no problem with underwater breathing exercises."
As Chen Tao joked with them, he suddenly felt a tremor beneath his feet, followed by a steady movement. The laughter ceased as everyone took their positions according to their training protocols, raising sails and setting off. Their primary purpose for this voyage was still training.
After two trial voyages to ensure the hull was sound, the next step was to train the crew. The sailors gradually adapted to life at sea, followed by training for naval combat. Another objective was to verify the accuracy of the Sea Chart provided by the Prince and locate the overseas Fortune Land that was familiar to them.
It was unclear where the Prince had obtained the Sea Chart, but it had been confirmed to be mostly accurate through previous voyages. Chen Tao was also on his first sea journey and felt a sense of wonder. The experience was completely different from being on the great rivers; the winds at sea were stronger, more variable, and the rocking of the ship was much more intense.
The crew members here either hailed from Xia Cheng and were accustomed to the waves or had undergone extensive training and were excellent swimmers, so no one suffered from seasickness upon boarding. Chen Tao leaned against the railing, gazing out at the vast expanse of water as the imposing Xia Cheng dock receded into the distance. Slowly, the dock became a small black dot until it vanished completely, leaving only the endless horizon of sea and sky in view.
After sailing for a considerable distance, a soldier stationed at the lookout on the tall mast broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly set down the single-tube telescope gifted by the Prince and grabbed a flag from beneath his feet. Waving it while shouting downwards, he called out, "Pirates! Pirates spotted ahead!"
