He didn’t even know if there were similar concepts at all.
So he casually tossed out a reference to Ancient Sages. After all, that quote couldn't possibly be attributed to Lu Xun.
Chen Tao took a moment to reflect and accepted this statement: I have heard that during the late Da Li period, the royal family treated the common people like fish and meat. Ultimately, they were overthrown by Great Qian Taizu who rose up for the sake of the common people; this is what we call a Just War.
If it had been during the prosperous period of the Da Li dynasty when the people lived in peace and prosperity, anyone who rebelled would simply be considered a traitor acting out of self-interest—a Unjust War.
Chen Tao, a child raised in the Jianghu Sect, was well-versed in martial arts and the intricacies of human meridians. However, when it came to historical anecdotes, he found himself at a loss, relying instead on the tales of dynasties passed down through generations.
Xu Lie did not dwell on this oversight; his gaze held a hint of amusement as he continued, "Very well, let me ask you this: if I were to raise an army and wage war against the Barbarian Tribes in Fortune Land, would that be considered just or unjust?"
Chen Tao's expression tightened, and without a moment's hesitation, he replied, "Of course it would be unjust! To launch an attack without cause is inherently a wicked war, completely devoid of any notion of justice."
Xu Lie regarded Chen Tao as if he were a prey unaware of the trap he had fallen into. With a teasing tone, he posed another question: "That’s because you are viewing it from the perspective of the Barbarian Tribes. Have you considered that from the standpoint of my Da Qian people, this war might actually be just?"
He continued, referencing Chen Tao's earlier example. "In the conflict between Da Li and Da Qian, differing perspectives naturally lead to a shift in the definition of war. From Da Qian's viewpoint, rebelling is for the sake of the common people; it is just. But from Da Li's perspective? The rebels are undoubtedly treasonous and unjust."
