William's expression was invigorated, resembling that of a starstruck fan, his eyes brimming with excitement as he stared intently at Xu Lie's Light and Shadow. Rims, on the other hand, managed to maintain his composure, gazing blankly at the picture frame he had just picked up.
It was a palm-colored wooden frame, coated in a layer of dust, containing a selfie of Xu Lie. The fact that Xu Lie had actually left something behind was astonishing—especially since it hadn’t been taken by aliens. How was this possible? How had he evaded Alien Technology?
Rims had almost lost hope, believing that if aliens had come here to abduct Xu Lie, they wouldn’t have allowed him to leave anything behind. To his surprise, the frame sat boldly on the bedside table. When he first picked it up, there was no reaction; it wasn’t until Rims pressed on the photo that the Light and Shadow activated.
He pressed the photo again, and mysteriously, without any switch, the Light and Shadow vanished into thin air, dimming the master bedroom anew.
“Rims?” William turned back in dissatisfaction, eager to see what clues Xu Lie had left behind. Rims wasn’t intimidated by William; instead, he cautiously reminded him, “William, don’t forget! It’s already past midnight—technically last night’s dusk—when the UFO projected a video clearly showing the flames! This means there could still be alien surveillance equipment in this villa!”
William paused for a moment, quickly realizing the gravity of the situation. As he slightly turned his head to the left, he suppressed the urge to look around with sheer determination. He grabbed Rims and said, “Let’s go! You’re right; I was too impulsive.”
The two hurried downstairs. William was brimming with enthusiasm while Rims wore a worried expression. It wasn’t until they got into the car that Rims finally let out a sigh of relief.
Once they had driven about two miles away, William impatiently urged, “Hurry! Rims, is it safe now? We should be out of their sight!”
Feeling the urgency in William’s voice—after all, he was the new team leader while Rims was merely the deputy—Rims couldn’t argue back.
He pressed on the photo again; quickly, the floating Light and Shadow formed into Xu Lie within the car. The Light and Shadow stood awkwardly, its legs seemingly merging with the car’s undercarriage while its head extended out of the roof, rendering its face completely invisible.
Then, the entire figure of Light and Shadow awkwardly aligned itself with the center console as if it had glitched out of a video game.
The situation made William and Rims even more awkward, while the audience outside nearly laughed themselves to tears.
"Hahaha! This is too funny! William and Rims, you two should really be in a comedy film!"
"Without a head? From this angle, Light and Shadow really does look like a ghost."
"Tsk, it’s just like the legendary ghost. Do you think it’s possible that the ghosts described by ancient people were actually this kind of alien projection technology? Maybe aliens have been lurking among humans for thousands of years?"
"??? We were having a good laugh, and then you suddenly start talking about ghosts?!"
Light and Shadow did not make any sounds; the real voice came from the frame. Xu Lie's comments wouldn’t float out of the car roof.
"My fellow humans, I know you are destined to search my dwelling and will inevitably discover this message."
William and Rims exchanged shocked glances as they drove. The real voice was naturally much clearer than the Mechanical Synthesized Voice.
What astonished them was not just the message itself, but the opening line: "My fellow humans."
