Anthony silently nodded at Mers, turned back, picked up the laptop from his desk, and handed it to Mers. "Not only that. As of just now, we have received diplomatic inquiries from hundreds of countries worldwide. The appearance of Alien Life in the metropolis cannot be hidden. Other countries will not turn a blind eye to this crisis that should unite Humanity. Yet, our upper management in the Great Federation is in a rush to push through the bill to disband the Investigation Bureau. Sigh."
Although Anthony's true identity was that of a Bionic Person, with various plugins assisting him, he found it effortless to play the role of a human. That sense of irony—his disdain for the upper echelons of the Great Federation and concern for what was to come—was all condensed into that one sigh. When it came to acting skills, he far surpassed Xu Lie, his superior.
Perhaps called back by Anthony's sigh, William finally stopped being dazed. "Director, after we merge with the Intelligence Agency, what can we do? We found a message from Lie that tells us only unexpected choices can give us a chance to defeat Alien Life."
Upon hearing this, Anthony relied on the powerful internal plugins in his brain to keep his expression unchanged. Secretly, however, he nearly laughed out loud. If one thought about it carefully, this message from Mr. Lie was quite truthful. If the Great Federation proceeded methodically and followed Mr. Xu Lie's script step by step, there would be absolutely no chance for a comeback.
If they could execute some extremely unexpected operations, perhaps there would be a slim possibility of breaking Mr. Xu Lie's established script. It seemed Mr. Xu Lie was enjoying himself as well and had put on quite a show in front of an audience.
Anthony thought to himself that what he said and what he truly felt were two different matters: "The bill has already been put to vote today." Within Senior Management, everyone was tacitly pushing forward; they even expedited the process so that within a few days, the Investigation Bureau would cease to exist.
By then, I will strive to bring both of you to the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Agency meeting to play back Mr. Xu Lie's message you hold in your hands. After all, this Intelligence Agency has gathered a large number of scientists; who knows what methods they might devise to defeat Alien Life?
What else could William and Mers say?
Feeling dejected, he reluctantly agreed. Working overtime, the former captain and most of the team had fled, leaving them promoted to captain and vice-captain. However, before he had even sat in the captain's chair for a day or visited the office, he returned to find that the Investigation Bureau was on the verge of collapse. How could anyone stay motivated under such circumstances?
Anthony wanted to offer some comforting words, but just then, the red communicator on his desk rang urgently. His expression changed instantly; that was the most critical communication device, not something to be used lightly. He hurried over to answer it. "What’s going on?!"
There was no need to ask who was on the other end or to confirm anything; a call of this urgency meant something significant was happening that could affect the entire Great Federation. Instead of getting bogged down in minor details, it was better to find out what had transpired.
On the other end of the line, a voice filled with regret and anguish spoke up: "Those idiots at the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Agency have messed everything up." They had secretly contacted an Arms Tycoon and prepared a mission codenamed Extinguishing Operation. Unfortunately, they had failed to put out the fire.
