Infiltrating the building felt like walking on thin ice for William; every step and every movement demanded his utmost caution. His mind was constantly focused, draining his energy, but the arrival of good news provided a slight boost to his spirits.
However, Charles did not quickly interrupt the intercom, leaving William to wonder why there was silence. The excitement from the good news turned into tension as he glanced anxiously at Anthony.
Anthony shook his head and quietly set down the intercom. On the other end, Charles clearly sensed something was off, his voice now frantic: "Damn it! We have a rat in here! Everyone to the Eighteenth Floor!"
Charles's voice boomed with an intensity that shattered his usual calm demeanor, abandoning all traces of his refined elegance. His shout was louder than a butcher's cry over a slaughtered pig, as if he feared William and the audience on the other end might not hear him clearly.
In a particularly considerate move, Charles repeated "Eighteenth Floor" several times, which made William's eyes light up. In that moment, his once weary body seemed to extract some hidden energy, reactivating him: "Anthony, to the Eighteenth Floor! The Tactical Nuclear Weapon of the Military-Industrial Complex must be hidden there!"
The anxious audience realized that the situation had taken a turn for the better. Not only did William grasp the external circumstances, but he also unexpectedly uncovered the location of the Tactical Nuclear Weapon. The barrage of comments became much more cheerful.
"Who would have thought that you, Charles, with your handsome looks as Cobra Boss, could be so clueless at times? Isn’t this just handing over intel?"
"Wow, the biggest mistake made by those Arms Tycoons was bringing the Viper to the Great Federation, Sherwood District. Without the Viper, this intel on the Tactical Nuclear Weapon wouldn't have leaked; we might not even have lost on the front lines."
"I can already predict what happens next: it’s definitely going to be Anthony and William racing against time to stop the launch of the Tactical Nuclear Weapon."
Seeing William's excited demeanor eased Anthony's mind a bit. Initially, he had thought Charles's intel was too deliberate and might raise suspicions in William. He had somewhat underestimated William's intelligence.
But looking at William now, it seemed to be working out well.
Anthony decided not to dwell on it further: "I heard you! Let's hurry; Viper's people are definitely on their way. We must get there before them."
"Right!" The two accelerated again, swiftly making their way up the emergency staircase toward the Eighteenth Floor.
William felt a surge of excitement as he climbed the stairs, the light in his eyes growing brighter with each step. It was as if he were not ascending an ordinary staircase, but rather a heroic ladder that would prevent the Great Federation from a nuclear explosion. In that moment, he even felt as though he was stepping on beams of light.
However, everything shattered when he pushed open the heavy door to the Eighteenth Floor on Antong Avenue.
Before him lay a vast ruin. The entire Eighteenth Floor appeared to have been ravaged by some monstrous force; walls had collapsed, and debris was scattered everywhere. A row of Top Double Nitrogen Glass had been deliberately shattered, leaving only the fierce winds from outside to invade, sweeping through and stirring up countless remnants.
It looked as if a flying beast had crashed into the Eighteenth Floor of the building, casually waving its hand to shatter all the glass. Then it reached in and wreaked havoc among the ruins, ultimately making off with a Tactical Nuclear Weapon.
In an instant, William's heart, once filled with passion and fervor, froze and tightened abruptly.
