I will admit that last week I was thoroughly amused by Beric, laughing so hard that my mother asked if I was raising geese in my room.
Third Yi, I'm here to claim the top spot.
At first, looking at the title and considering the character's personality, I thought it would be a traditional, action-packed monster-slaying story. However, it turned out to be about the founding of the first magic school in the mainland, which unexpectedly made me want to follow along.
The chaotic Danmaku that swept across didn’t affect the mages lining up to register, nor did it disturb Reiner, who was diligently signing up. Reiner felt deeply impressed by Xu Lie’s greatness and willingly offered his help.
He enjoyed chatting with the mages around him, feeling that he was partaking in something particularly meaningful and beneficial for future generations. His work felt much more invigorating.
Meanwhile, a familiar mage next to Reiner glanced at the chessboard on his left and suddenly noticed a few dots appearing on it: "Oh, Reiner. Isn’t this the Mage's Seeking Board you came to find me about that day? It seems there are still mages left out who haven’t been invited by you all."
Reiner paused in his registration and looked over as well, then set down his pen: "There’s no helping it; some of you are just too restless."
"Please understand, let me step away for a moment to receive them."
Currently, there were simply too few mages around, so relationships among them were relatively good. Even when encountering unfamiliar mages occasionally, they would nod and greet each other—of course, excluding the Evil Mage.
Thus, the mages waiting in line behind didn’t have much objection. Those who had completed their registration even urged Reiner: "If not, then don’t keep everyone waiting."
Reiner thought about it and agreed; as long as someone was there to receive them, he was about to nod in agreement when Xu Lie approached: "No need to receive them."
"These are all Evil Mages," Xu Lie said. "Reiner, why not test your Firepower Coverage? Haven't you always wanted to find a place to test the Thunder Magic you obtained from the Truth Gate?"
Xu Lie's words immediately put all the surrounding mages on high alert; several skilled in direct combat even drew their weapons. For any mage walking the righteous path, there was zero tolerance for Evil Mages. Many had witnessed numerous tragic scenes during their travels across the mainland—such as villages completely slaughtered by Evil Mages just to harvest blood for their dark sorcery.
The Evil Mage maliciously captured souls, creating thousands of Living Dead to conduct a Magic Ritual. He abducted Ordinary People, subjecting them to countless tortures solely to study the negative thoughts that arise in humans when they are on the brink of death. Such heinous acts were universally reviled, and other mages would kill any they encountered without mercy, showing no compassion for these beings that could hardly be considered their kind.
Xu Lie decided to hold the Exchange Conference two months in advance, primarily to expedite the construction of the Logistics Base, with no time to waste dragging things out. A secondary reason, albeit a faint one, was to ambush the Evil Mage. One must not forget that in traditional heroic tales like "Ben Huo," any grand event attended by characters is bound to be anything but uneventful.
Seventy years had passed without an Evil Mage daring to provoke the Mage Exchange Conference, yet this year, one would indeed come to wreak havoc. The Evil Mage had two months to infiltrate the location of the Exchange Conference at Three Mountains and Two Lakes, secretly setting up an Evil Magic Circle with the intent of ensnaring all the mages.
Of course, in the original storyline, justice ultimately prevailed; the Evil Mage was thoroughly vanquished. Moreover, Jiao Berik emerged as a hero, triumphing over evil in a classic narrative. It was hard to tell whether the Evil Mage was simply foolish or overly arrogant for daring to confront thousands of mages with just a handful of followers. Regardless, Xu Lie assumed that the Evil Mages were merely suffering from diminished intelligence due to Beric's Jiao Guanghuan affecting their minds from a distance.
