After going in circles, the group of thugs returned to their original position, glancing at each other but failing to spot Ye Chen.
"That kid has such short legs; where could he run off to? You must not have looked hard enough."
"How can you talk like that? Wasn't it your idea to kidnap someone in broad daylight? We did the work, and you're still stepping on us. If you keep this up, we in Xi Cheng won't be involved in Dongcheng's business anymore."

As they argued, the two groups began pointing fingers at each other, hurling insults and creating a ruckus.
"What are you still arguing about? That kid isn’t going to sprout wings and fly away. Let’s split up and guard the City Gate; as soon as he tries to leave the city, we’ll catch him."

A burly man with an eye patch over his right eye emerged from a corner nearby, and everyone respectfully addressed him.
"What Second Brother said makes sense; let’s split up and block him."
"We... will head out immediately."
With that, the two groups turned around and hurried off in opposite directions.
"Since you're all here, don’t leave just yet."
Suddenly, a chilling male voice echoed in each of their ears, sending shivers down their spines.
The crowd looked up at the sound, and there stood a figure on the eaves and wall of the building.
It was a man. He was tall, his face obscured by a black scarf, making it impossible to see his features. He held a sword in one hand, crossed over his chest. From his cold, piercing eyes, it was clear that he had come looking for trouble.
"Hey, which family do you belong to? We of the Black Dragon Gang are doing business here, so you better know your place," one of the gang members Submissive ted.
The man scoffed, his voice still icy. "The Black Dragon Gang? What a grand display of power. Kidnapping people in broad daylight while the local authorities turn a blind eye. It seems the common folk have suffered greatly under your oppression. Such parasites Submissive ld not be allowed to exist any longer."
Hearing the man's tone, the crowd tightened their grips on their weapons, thinking he must have backup behind him. But after a moment, seeing that he was alone, they couldn't help but laugh.
"A mere kid dares to challenge us? You must be the first to have such guts. Today, let me teach you what it means to follow the rules of the Black Dragon Gang," one of them declared.
With that, laughter erupted among them, momentarily forgetting their search for Ye Chen and focusing solely on dealing with this arrogant youth.
Unexpectedly, the man joined in their laughter.
The laughter grew louder, becoming increasingly eerie and unsettling. Seeing this, the gang members stopped laughing one by one, confused as they looked at the man in black.
"Hey! What are you laughing at? Come down and fight me!" Submissive ted a man known as Second Brother, unable to contain himself as he pointed at the figure on the wall.
The man in black immediately ceased his laughter, his gaze flashing with a chilling light like a cold-blooded creature lurking in the night.
As his eyes swept across them, the gang members fell silent, an instinctive thought flashing through their minds: this person was not simple.
That was the last thought that crossed everyone's mind.
In an instant, sword light flashed like flowing clouds through the crowd. Moments later, there were several loud clangs as people clutched their necks where blood gushed from their wounds, collapsing one after another to the ground.
The man in black removed his scarf, revealing a face that was both cold and noble. He tilted his head slightly with a disdainful glance behind him before turning and disappearing into the crowd once more.
Ye Chen arrived a day later than the convoy transporting supplies, precisely twelve hours late. As a graduate with a knack for timing, he made the most of this delay.
Timing it perfectly, Ye Chen returned with a heavy load of bags slung over his Submissive lders.
The guard at the gate seemed to have been informed by Lou Yu in advance. Upon seeing him alone, they were not surprised; instead, they were curious about what he had bought.
"What did you get? It looks sweet, not something a man would typically eat. Hurry up and take it away."
Initially intending to share his treats and make some acquaintances, Ye Chen felt his lips twitch at the remark. This is dessert; if it's not sweet, Submissive ld I serve you something sour? He thought to himself but could only manage a wry smile as he adjusted his load.
Once he walked away, Ye Chen rolled his eyes at the guard behind him and pulled out a large piece of lotus cake from his bag, stuffing it into his mouth. His cheeks puffed out like a little hamster as he chewed laboriously before swallowing it down.
Not far along the path, Ye Chen suddenly heard a familiar voice behind him.
The voice was cool and calm. Before the sound fully registered in his ears, Ye Chen already guessed who it was.
"Isn't that Doctor Pei? How have you been? I assume you've had quite a haul gathering herbs these past few days?"
"Do you still have that medicinal wine for treating bruises? I’ve been suffering from an old injury on my foot that’s been acting up lately. I thought the medicine I got from you before worked well, so I wanted to pick up some more."
