Pei Guanjing told him to bring his belongings and come along. Ye Chen thought for a moment; he had very little to take with him, nothing particularly valuable, so he simply slung his bag over his shoulder and stepped outside. 0

The cold wind blew sharply, while the night was gentle and cool as water. A slender crescent moon hung high above, casting a silvery glow. 0

Pei Guanjing's tall and elegant figure was shrouded in a thin mist under the moonlight, as if veiled in a layer of mystery that made him hard to read or understand. 0

Ye Chen hurriedly caught up with him, the sound of his footsteps drawing Pei Guanjing's attention. Pei Guanjing slowly turned around, scrutinizing Ye Chen from head to toe. 0

The slender boy appeared frail, slightly hunched over, standing only at Pei Guanjing's waist. Ye Chen occasionally stole glances at him, his furtive movements revealing a hint of cleverness and cuteness, much like a cautious little animal. 0

"Um, Doctor Pei, where am I going to stay? It's late at night; it wouldn't be good to trouble others," Ye Chen asked softly, shrinking his neck a bit, his voice tinged with anxiety. 0

"You're not troubling anyone; you'll stay with me," Pei Guanjing replied in a calm tone. 0

"Huh?" Ye Chen suddenly looked up, meeting Pei Guanjing's gaze. From the look in Pei Guanjing's eyes, he realized that the man was not joking. After all, someone of Pei Guanjing's status would not bother to make such jokes. 0

"I... with you?" Ye Chen still found it hard to believe and confirmed once more. 0

"Yes, starting today you will be my apprentice, learning from me and staying in my tent," Pei Guanjing stated firmly with a serene expression. 0

"Ah?" 0

Ye Chen stood frozen in place, his mind racing as he pondered Pei Guanjing's true intentions. But before he could sort through his thoughts, Pei Guanjing had already reached out and taken the bag from Ye Chen's shoulder, holding it in one hand as he strode toward his tent. 0

Pei Guanjing walked with long strides, thanks to his exceptionally long and straight legs. Ye Chen hurriedly followed behind him, his gaze inadvertently sweeping over the intertwined shadows of the two on the ground. 0

Walking in Pei Guanjing's shadow, their silhouettes initially appeared uneven, one long and one short, but as they reached the end of the shadows, they miraculously aligned perfectly. 0

Ye Chen seemed to have found something amusing; once he stepped out of Pei Guanjing's shadow, he deliberately began to step on his shadow with each stride. 0

He was unsure why Pei Guanjing had chosen to let him live together, but Ye Chen knew deep down that it couldn't be as simple as just wanting to take him as a disciple. 0

Before long, Pei Guanjing led him into his living quarters. 0

To Ye Chen's surprise, the tent he occupied alone was as spacious as those where other Medical Camp apprentices resided. It was even cleverly divided by screens and wooden boards, forming two independent living spaces. It seemed this was a temporary dwelling that Pei Guanjing had constructed for him. 0

The ground was covered with brightly colored woolen carpets, soft and warm, making it very comfortable to walk on. The tent was furnished with tables and other furniture, everything arranged in an orderly fashion. Pei Guanjing certainly did not seem like an ordinary Military Doctor; he appeared more like an important superior being well-treated during an inspection of the military. 0

Noticing Ye Chen's eyes wandering around the tent, Pei Guanjing quietly approached from behind, slightly bending down to lean close to his ear. He exhaled a warm breath and said in a low, ambiguous voice, “I heard you say earlier that I have a hidden ailment?” 0

The last two words were spoken almost directly into Ye Chen's ear, carrying a subtle pressure. 0

Ye Chen's face instantly flushed red. Unable to contain himself, he abruptly pushed Pei Guanjing away and stepped back two paces until his back hit a high stool. 0

“Uh, Doctor Pei, I was just joking! I didn’t mean to scare anyone. Besides, you’re not that petty, right? We’re all men here; don’t take it seriously,” Ye Chen stammered in a flustered explanation while inwardly lamenting how he couldn’t control his own mouth. 0

Though he didn’t want Pei Guanjing to take it seriously, he knew that falsely accusing him would not be easily forgiven by someone of his status. Yet now he felt utterly helpless; after all, this man was an official with power and unexpectedly became his master—something he could not resist at all. 0

A sudden spark of inspiration flashed through Ye Chen's mind as his eyes shimmered under the light. He looked up and said, "Master, let me pour you a cup of tea. We can't be careless with the apprenticeship ceremony; I, your Disciple, will pay my respects now." With that, he quickly adjusted his emotions, a charming smile spreading across his face. 0

The boy's smooth maneuver caught Pei Guanjing off guard, and he couldn't help but let the corners of his mouth lift slightly, revealing a barely perceptible smile. 0

Pei Guanjing did not speak to stop him. Ye Chen swiftly scanned the surroundings, confirmed the location of the tea set, and picked up the silver pot on the table. With practiced ease, he poured a cup of tea for Pei Guanjing, raised it high with both hands, and with a decisive "thud," knelt down in front of him. He declared loudly, "Master, please accept my bow." After saying this, the boy respectfully bent at the waist, holding the tea cup steadily, his forehead nearly touching the ground. 0

Pei Guanjing found this scene amusing. The boy seemed to think he was about to settle some score with him, rushing to pay his respects as if afraid that delaying even a moment would lead to trouble. 0

In truth, he was still afraid of him. 0

For a moment, time seemed to freeze, and the atmosphere grew slightly tense. Ye Chen held the cup aloft; due to nervousness and the cold, his hands trembled slightly, and his fingertips were turning red from the chill. 0

Pei Guanjing's gaze fell on those crimson fingertips before drifting to Ye Chen's eyelashes that curled gently upward as he bowed his head. A strange feeling stirred within him. What was happening? He was the one who had taken this boy as a disciple, yet now he hesitated to accept this cup of tea. 0

Could it be that he truly was as petty as this boy believed? That he had no intention of letting him off easy? 0

That simply wouldn't do. 0
