Climbing through the drainage pipe, Yu Songyu struggled to enter a room. By the dim light of the moon, she determined that this must be Chen Dexing's study. Reaching this point was already her limit. These despicable creatures could live a few more days for all she cared.
Just as she was about to leave, footsteps approached from afar. Curiosity piqued, Yu Songyu found a hidden corner to conceal herself. The light was turned on, and Chen Dexing sat at the desk, reviewing documents.
Before long, Chen Lu entered with a plate of sliced fruit.
“Dad, have some fruit!”
“Hmm, my daughter really knows how to take care of me,” Chen Dexing replied, his face radiating affection as he looked at Chen Lu.
“Dad, I've been looking for Yu Songyu lately. Have you found any leads?”
“Did you have any luck?”
“I ran into her today at my coffee shop, but unfortunately, she got away!” Chen Lu recalled the slap he had received earlier, veins bulging on his forehead.
“Oh, just a little girl. She can't stir up much trouble,” Chen Dexing scoffed, disdain evident on his face. If even his father had been defeated by him, how could a mere child pose any threat?
However, Chen Lu felt a twinge of guilt and absentmindedly touched his slightly swollen cheek. In truth, after saying those words earlier that day, he regretted it.
“But…”
Chen Dexing furrowed his brow, sensing something ominous.
“But she slapped me in public today! I was so angry that I told her how her father died. Dad, do you think if Yu Songyu knows the truth, she might team up with those shareholders against us?”
“Hmph! She would need to have the means for that! Which of those shareholders isn’t self-serving? She has nothing now; do you think anyone would care about her? She's just a lost dog—nothing to fear.”
Hearing her father's words eased Chen Lu's worries significantly.
It made sense; those shareholders were now desperately trying to curry favor with his father. Who would pay attention to her, the one who had lost?
Chen Dexing pondered for a moment, feeling that he needed to be cautious. It had not been easy for him to reach this point. However, caution was the key to longevity; keeping her around would eventually become a disaster. He had to find her quickly and ensure she remained under their control.
"Got it, Dad. But what do I do once I find her?"
"You call Uncle Ming immediately. I'll give him a heads-up; he knows what to do."
Yu Songyu understood; they were determined to eliminate her.
Lying on the heated bed at Aunt Wang's house, Yu Songyu set an alarm on her phone. She planned to take a short nap to recharge. Once the Chen family was sound asleep, she would go out and scout.
At two in the morning, Yu Songyu's alarm went off. This time, she successfully teleported to Chen Dexing's study.
She tiptoed around the entire villa and was fortunate to discover that there were no cameras installed inside.
"Who’s there?"
Chen Dexing had been under a lot of pressure lately and often suffered from insomnia. As he stepped out of his bedroom, he spotted a shadow not far away.
"Who is that?"
His voice trembled uncontrollably as he fumbled for the light switch.
In an instant, the lights illuminated the entire hall.
He thought he must be too exhausted lately; lack of sleep was causing him hallucinations.
He must have seen it wrong—yes, it had to be a mistake!
Chen Dexing took a moment to collect himself. It was impossible not to feel nervous or scared, especially since he had done many things that weighed heavily on his conscience.
He scanned the room; it was empty—there was no sign of anyone at all.
