She had made up her mind; she wanted to be the best friend of Yu Songyu. With such a frail body, she felt the need to protect her. Li Xiuzhen shifted her position, deliberately sitting in front of Yu Songyu, using her own body to shield her from the biting wind and snow.
Yu Songyu took all of this in, and a warm current flowed through her heart. Although she had suffered betrayal from her close friend in the modern world, and lacked the love of parents or the care of family, seeing Li Xiuzhen's face, red from the cold yet still turning to smile at her, brought a sense of warmth back into her heart.
Perhaps she shouldn’t let one incident or one person overshadow all the beauty in the world. There were people like Bai Jie and Li Xiuzhen who warmed her spirit and reminded her that she had not been forgotten by this world.
Before going to bed, Yu Songyu emptied her bag of money onto the bed. After a long day, she had made quite a bit, mostly from selling Cotton Shoes, gloves, and Knee Pads. She planned to rest that night and find an excuse to visit Bai Jie in the modern world the next day, while also bringing back another batch of goods to sell.
After a tiring day, Yu Songyu lay down and soon fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, after lunch, as soon as Yu Songyu stepped outside, she bumped into several Male Educated Youths who had just returned from hunting in the mountains.
"Xiao Yu, look over there!"
Following Wang Jianjun's point direction, she turned to see two Male Educated Youths dragging a massive creature behind them.
"Is that a wild boar?"
The prey was tied up with ropes and being dragged by the two youths, leaving deep tracks in the snow. Yu Songyu had seen pictures of wild boars in books, but this one was half-buried in the snow, so she could only guess its shape based on its outline.
"That's right! Xiao Yu is really smart!"
Wang Jianjun patted Yu Songyu on the head, completely oblivious to her displeasure.
"Wow!"
The other Male Educated Youths were equally clueless and joined in with their raucous laughter. Wang Jianjun's face turned red with excitement; he felt pleased inside but tried to maintain his composure on the outside.
"This wild boar must have starved to death; we found it just in time! What do you think?"
"Hehe, that's quite something!"
Yu Songyu smiled with a facade of politeness, though she wasn't particularly fond of people who lacked boundaries.
"Brother!"
Seeing Yang Qinghe, Yu Songyu greeted him cheerfully.
"Mm."
Yang Qinghe felt a pang of bitterness in his heart. This girl had such a vibrant personality and was undeniably beautiful; it was no surprise that many were interested in her. Wang Jianjun was clearly acting suspiciously, and if he wasn't careful, someone else might swoop in and take her away.
He had never felt this strongly about someone before, and the thought of losing her to someone else made him feel regretful. However, if he got too close to her too quickly, would it make her uncomfortable? If she misunderstood him as someone frivolous and unreliable, it would all be for nothing.
Yang Qinghe found himself in a dilemma, feeling small and cautious in front of Yu Songyu.
"Brother Jianjun, I have something to attend to, so I'll take my leave!"
Yu Songyu had important matters to attend to and couldn't afford to waste time here. She smiled at the other Male Educated Youths, nodded in acknowledgment, and then left without looking back.
Yang Qinghe had been so caught up in his worries that he hadn't even heard what they were talking about earlier. Once the girl was out of sight, he remembered that he still had two wild chickens to deliver to Yu Songyu and Aunt Wang.
"You all head back first; I'll take these two chickens to the villagers!"
