Xiao He had never been to town in her life; she had never even left Shi Gou Village. She nodded vigorously, as if afraid that Yu Songyu might change her mind.
After lunch, a few of them first took Xiao He to change her medicine, and then they headed to the State-Owned Hotel. All the fish were purchased at a uniform price of four cents per pound, and nearly a pound of fish sold for almost forty yuan.
"Comrade Xiao Yu, your fish is really fresh!" The chef at the State-Owned Hotel couldn't help but praise. "These fish are tender and fatty, far better than the quality we bought before."
"Of course! This fish was still in the river this morning, and by afternoon, it was delivered to you!" Yu Songyu's words made the manager and chef burst into laughter. They thought this young girl was quite impressive—she kept her word and was reliable, making her a good candidate for long-term cooperation.
"Hahaha, your fish is indeed great! We could establish a long-term partnership; we just don't know how to find you!"
"Just come to me whenever you need fish!" Yu Songyu pulled out a piece of paper and a pen from her bag and wrote down the address of the house she was preparing to buy.
After leaving the State-Owned Hotel, Yu Songyu looked up at the sun, which was still high in the sky. "It's still early; how about we take a stroll around the Supply and Marketing Cooperative?"
Li Xiuzhen and Wang Jianjun had no objections, and Yang Qinghe was even more agreeable. He held Xiao He in his arms, radiating a sense of husbandly affection. Watching him, Yu Songyu imagined their life after marriage.
It was Xiao He's first time here, and everything in the Supply and Marketing Cooperative felt fresh and curious to her. She leaned on Yang Qinghe's shoulder, stretching her little head to look around.
Yu Songyu rummaged through her pockets—there were sugar tickets, meat tickets, and snack tickets—all sent by her brother.
Yang Qinghe quickened his pace, holding Xiao He with one arm while pulling out a bunch of items from his pocket with the other.
When Yu Songyu opened her hand, she discovered several Large Unity notes along with some tickets.
"What are you doing?" she asked knowingly, wanting to tease Yang Qinghe.
"Here you go!"
Without waiting for Yu Songyu to react, Yang Qinghe held Xiao He and moved forward, not giving Yu Songyu a chance to tease him.
Yu Songyu smiled as she tucked the money away; it felt great to have someone giving her money. She walked behind them, her back straighter, feeling reassured with money in her pocket.
Xiao He showed little interest in the items at the counter until she spotted a pair of Cotton Shoes.
"Do you want something, Xiao He? Uncle will buy it for you!" Wang Jianjun said generously as he followed Yang Qinghe. He had expected the child to be interested in food or toys, but to his surprise, she pointed at the Cotton Shoes.
"Excuse me, do you have these Cotton Shoes in a size for small children?" he asked the attendant.
Hearing Wang Jianjun's question made Xiao He a bit anxious, and she quickly spoke up, "For Mommy!"
Everyone paused for a moment before realizing what she meant. Indeed, daughters are often little cotton-padded jackets for their mothers; she immediately thought of Zhao Lianzhi.
"Alright, we'll buy one for Mommy and one for Xiao He!" Wang Jianjun said, and with that, his image grew significantly in Yu Songyu's eyes.
They bought quite a few items: fabric, Milk Candy, Malt Milk, steamed cakes, and of course, the Cotton Shoes that Xiao He wanted. They also picked up several Comic Books for her.
The group chatted and laughed, drawing the attention of many passersby. It was hard not to attract notice as they walked down the street.
Yu Songyu and Yang Qinghe made a striking pair—handsome man and beautiful woman—especially with a child in their arms. Many people assumed they were married, and several unmarried individuals felt a twinge of regret.
Wang Jianjun was also quite good-looking, exuding a warm and gentle aura that caught the eyes of many girls.
Unfortunately, admiration was one thing; no one dared to approach them. After all, beside the handsome man stood a robust woman with an intimidating presence. If she got angry, who knew what might happen?
