Wang Jianjun glanced at Yu Songyu, his face full of flattery as he looked at Xu Zhuzhen.
"Tsk tsk tsk, Wang Jianjun, just look at that face of yours. When has it not been Li Xiu Zhen leading you around, huh?"
Seeing Wang Jianjun roll his eyes at her, Yu Songyu was not one to back down. "I don’t care! I’m going to stick with my Li Xiu Zhen!"
As he spoke, Wang Jianjun playfully adopted a coy demeanor, leaning into Xu Zhuzhen's embrace.
"Oh my goodness! Go on, go on, enough already! Hurry up!"
Yu Songyu felt a shiver run down her spine, utterly disgusted by the sight. She finally understood what it felt like to be a third wheel. The two of them were whispering sweet nothings to each other along the way. She was increasingly curious about when these two had started their relationship.
No way, she couldn't take it anymore. Once they got home tonight, no matter what kind of torture she had to endure, she would demand an explanation.
"Xiao Yu, why did you buy so many things?"
Xu Zhuzhen knew that Yu Songyu had borrowed quite a bit of money from their landlord, Old Lady, but spending it like this was quite another matter!
"Aren't we going home? We need to stock up on food for Grandma and the others so they can celebrate the New Year too! And these..."
Yu Songyu pointed at four pieces of wool fabric and a bunch of assorted snacks.
"Yang Qinghe has been busy today and didn’t have time to shop. I thought I’d help him out and get some things for him to take home!"
"Tsk tsk tsk, and you’re already trying to win over your future mother-in-law before you’re even married?"
"What are you talking about? I just think Yang Qinghe doesn’t have time to prepare for the New Year, so I’m lending a hand! Besides, even if we don’t end up together in the future, I’d still want to help!"
Yu Songyu wouldn’t go out of her way to curry favor with anyone; if you treated her well, she would do the same in return. If you didn’t treat her well, then stay away!
When they reached the front door, Xu Zhuzhen and Wang Jianjun helped unload the items from the ox cart.
"How about we help you carry everything inside?"
"No need! Just go on! Li Xiu Zhen, come find me tonight; I have something to discuss!"
"Sure!"
Yu Songyu instructed Uncle Bull Cart to take the two back to Zhiqing Institute while she quickly retrieved a lot of items from her space: rice, pork, beef and lamb, chicken and duck meat, various seasonings, and some fabric she had wholesale purchased from a modern fabric market.
"Grandma, Sister Lianzhi?"
Yu Songyu shouted loudly towards the house, calling for the two of them to come out and help.
"Oh dear, why did you buy so much? Is this child out of her mind?"
The Old Lady heard Yu Songyu's call and immediately dropped her sewing to rush outside. Upon seeing the pile of items on the ground, she was taken aback.
She always knew that Yu Songyu was a big spender, but she never expected her to buy so much at once.
"Well, I'm going back soon, right? I can't let my grandma go hungry!"
Yu Songyu pouted playfully, knowing that as long as she acted cute, the Little Old Lady would surely give in.
"With your smooth talk, there’s still plenty of food at home. You won't starve me! And this meat—did it cost you anything? Why did you buy so much?"
"It's not too much! It's the New Year; you all need something to eat."
"You don't need this much meat for the New Year, you silly girl!"
"Then, Grandma, I'm craving dumplings! Can you make me some for dinner?"
"Alright, I'll start making the dough soon!"
"I don't want vegetable filling; I want shredded radish!"
The Little Old Lady gently poked Yu Songyu's forehead with her finger and smiled indulgently.
"Okay, okay!"
Yu Songyu wanted to help carry the things back into the house, but the Little Old Lady insisted on doing it herself.
There was no way around it; she didn’t want to reveal her strength just yet and decided to comply with her Little Old Lady's wishes.
