"Yes, we've both grown up, and you've become so beautiful that even Brother Ting can hardly recognize you!"
Gu Ting reached out and playfully tapped Yu Songyu on the nose, just like when they were kids. However, his gaze held not only affection but also a hint of intensity.
"Brother Ting, I remember you were in the army in Yunnan Province. How come you don't seem that tanned?"
Yu Songyu blinked at him, her face full of curiosity.
"Uh, I was never really pale to begin with. Even if I did get tanned, it wouldn't be too noticeable. But Xiao Yu, have you been to Yunnan Province?"
"Huh? I’ve seen it in books. They say it has long hours of sunshine and all that!"
"Oh, I see! Xiao Yu is still as eager to learn as ever!"
Yu Songyu smiled awkwardly, relieved she hadn't slipped up. There was no way she could have traveled that far; she would need a letter of introduction to go there.
"By the way, Brother Ting, do you have any fun stories from your time in the army?"
Gu Ting shared some interesting experiences he had while stationed there, making Yu Songyu laugh uncontrollably.
"Hahaha, that's hilarious! By the way, Brother Ting, are there female soldiers there? When are you going to bring me a sister-in-law?"
Yu Songyu was laughing so hard that tears formed in her eyes. Not wanting him to continue with that topic, she quickly changed the subject.
"There are, but—"
The man gazed into Yu Songyu's clear eyes, unsure of how to continue. He was older than her and had developed feelings for this young girl long before he left home. Now seeing her blossom into such a beautiful woman filled him with surprise and joy.
However, he feared that revealing his true feelings might scare her away. A girl as wonderful as her was worth guarding silently.
"But what? Come on, just say it!"
Yu Songyu widened her eyes in anticipation, her eyelashes fluttering enticingly without her even realizing it.
"I have someone I like!"
"Huh? You have someone you like? Then why be shy? What’s there to hide between us?"
Yu Songyu casually patted Gu Ting on the shoulder. The moment she did so, she felt a sharp pain from the impact.
Not one to back down easily, she playfully grabbed his arm again. Wow, he was really solid! Compared to Yang Qinghe's muscles, Gu Ting's were equally impressive if not more so.
"By the way, where is your sister-in-law from? Do I know her?"
Yu Songyu was quite curious about this future sister-in-law. After all, with Ting Ge being so handsome, she wondered what kind of woman could be worthy of him.
"You know her!"
"Huh? I know her?"
This only piqued Yu Songyu's curiosity further. She racked her brain for an answer but came up empty. "Who is Ting Ge's fiancée? Just tell me!"
Yu Songyu looked at him with innocent eyes, wearing a pitiful expression.
"Keep it a secret for now!"
Gu Ting teased her with a smile, amused at how she was just like when they were kids—whining and acting cute whenever she wanted something.
However, the way she acted cute back then was purely adorable, making people want to pinch her cheeks. Now that she was grown up, her cuteness had an added charm that made one want to hold her close and cherish her.
"Fine, if you won’t tell me, then just let me off the car!"
The vehicle came to a stop, but Yu Songyu still hadn’t gotten an answer. She pouted like an angry pufferfish, tossing all her luggage to Gu Ting to carry while she marched ahead.
Gu Ting followed closely behind her, both doting and helpless, worried that too many people might accidentally bump into her.
Yu Songyu wasn’t genuinely mad at him; it was just that having a piece of fruit only half-eaten made one’s heart itch for more.
"Xiao Yu, how long can you stay home this time?"
Gu Ting quickened his pace to catch up with Yu Songyu and walked alongside her.
"About ten days or so. How about you?"
Yu Songyu felt that ever since they grew up, the time they spent together had become less and less. There was really no need to act like they did when they were kids—ignoring each other when upset.
"About the same. Come over to my house for New Year's Eve dinner; it’s been a while since we gathered!"
She remembered how their families used to get together often because of their close relationship. Even during the New Year celebrations, there had been several occasions when they spent it together.
