When she woke up, the sun was almost setting.
Yu Suihuan rubbed her eyes and saw the increasingly handsome face of the man beside her.
"Are you awake?"
Wang Zhaoran smiled brightly. The food had been reheated countless times, yet this girl just wouldn’t wake up.
"How did I sleep so long?"
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Yu Suihuan quickly tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear.
"You must be hungry. I'll go get you some food!"
"Okay!"
Soon, the meal was on the table, with her original breakfast replaced by takeout from the State-Owned Hotel.
"Your favorite Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet and buns!"
"Great!"
Waking up to her favorite food made her feel incredibly happy.
"Come eat with me! It’s no fun eating alone!"
Yu Suihuan thought that having someone to share a meal with made it taste even better.
"Alright, after we finish eating, I'll take you back to your village!"
Yu Suihuan initially wanted to say that it wasn’t necessary since she could easily get there herself, but then she realized it was getting dark. If she insisted on going alone, Wang Zhaoran would surely worry. What if he secretly followed her? She still couldn’t teleport!
"Okay!"
With no other choice, Yu Suihuan agreed; this was a sweet burden, after all!
The weather was warm and pleasant as Yu Suihuan sat on the back of the bicycle, enjoying the gentle breeze against her skin—it felt quite nice!
After leaving the main road, they traveled along a mountain path, which was also why Wang Zhaoran was concerned.
As it grew darker, Yu Suihuan held a flashlight from the back seat to help him see the way. Suddenly, she noticed a shadow moving near the edge of the dirt road ahead, and she felt a surge of tension.
She was understandably nervous, for not far down this narrow path lay a series of graves, one after another.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here!" Yu Suihuan reassured her.
"What is that?" Wang Zhaoran asked, feeling uneasy as Yu Suihuan's grip tightened on the sides of his shirt.
"It’s probably just a night owl or a wild dog, something like that. No need to worry, I'll go take a look!"
"No, no! If you go over there, what if it comes and grabs me?"
As they whispered to each other, they suddenly saw the dark figure ahead split into two. One part drifted toward a grave mound, sending chills down their spines.
Yu Suihuan dared not shine the flashlight; she was afraid of seeing something unclean and her mind was racing with images of ghostly faces.
"Give me the flashlight!" she demanded.
Wang Zhaoran handed her the flashlight, and they shone it toward the dark figure.
Suddenly, the shadow stood upright, clearly resembling a person. They could see tattered clothing and long hair obscuring its face, creating an eerie sight.
Both Yu Suihuan and Wang Zhaoran gasped in shock but remained silent.
"Who are you? Why are you playing tricks?"
The figure stood at a distance, obscured by weeds, making it hard to tell if it had feet or not.
It didn’t respond but twisted its body in various strange positions, looking quite frightening.
"Hey! I'm talking to you! Stop playing around! This is a new society now!" Wang Zhaoran said boldly as he slowly pulled Yu Suihuan closer.
Now Yu Suihuan could see clearly that the shadow did have feet. This meant it was indeed a person.
She whispered a few words in Wang Zhaoran's ear before taking the flashlight from him.
In the next moment, Wang Zhaoran dashed toward the figure with surprising speed.
Clearly taken aback by this unexpected reaction, the figure paused for a second before turning and sprinting toward the graves behind it.
"Don't run!"
Wang Zhaoran grabbed the hem of the person's clothing and, in the next moment, pinned her to the ground.
"Who are you? What are you trying to do with these tricks?"
The person struggled desperately, but in comparison to Wang Zhaoran, her smaller stature and the effects of prolonged hunger left her unable to break free.
"Do whatever you want—kill me or cut me up, just stop wasting time with your nonsense!"
The voice from beneath him spoke, youthful yet firm.
