Ye Sha appeared to be all business, but inside she was seething with rage.
"I understand. Just let me know when the results come in," Si Yin said, waving his hand dismissively as he ushered her out.
"Boss!" Ye Sha couldn't believe Si Yin had suddenly become so indifferent. How could he prioritize everything else over work?
"This is a matter of life and death! The deceased is waiting for us to seek justice for him, how can you—"
"Hey!"
It was Jin Zisu who couldn't hold back any longer. "I have to ask, miss, what's with your tone? It's not like Si Yin is the one who committed the murder. Besides, he already said he'd head back to the precinct as soon as the fingerprint results are in. Why act like it's a crime if he doesn't leave right this second?"
Hearing the protective tone in Jin Zisu's voice warmed Si Yin's heart.
He ignored Ye Sha's outburst and instead picked up a thin blanket, carefully draping it over Jin Zisu's legs.
Ye Sha's face turned crimson with anger as she prepared to retort but suddenly slipped and fell to the ground with a loud "ouch." She shouted, "What are you doing?! Do you know it's illegal to assault a police officer?!"
Jin Zisu rolled his eyes in annoyance. Assaulting a police officer? Was it really that serious? She had merely tossed a banana peel at him.
Ye Sha was so furious that she felt like her teeth would crack, yet she couldn't think of a single retort for Jin Zisu. All she could do was shoot him a fierce glare before storming off.
"Tsk tsk, your assistant has quite the temper," Jin Zisu remarked, watching Ye Sha's retreating figure with a smirk.
"Ye Sha comes from a privileged background and has been pampered since childhood. Being a police officer really doesn't suit her," Si Yin said with a helpless shake of her head.
"Knowing it doesn't suit her, yet you still let her join the police department? Your chief is quite strange," Jin Zisu remarked, pulling the thin blanket up and signaling to Si Yin that she could push her out the door.
"Ye Sha's father is good friends with the chief, so..." Si Yin sighed, not continuing further.
"Oh, so she's a connection hire," Jin Zisu nodded in understanding.
At that moment, Jin Zisu's backpack, which was under her pillow, began to vibrate violently with the music.
Si Yin helped her retrieve her phone. As soon as Jin Zisu saw the number on the screen, she wailed, "Oh no, it's over!"
She answered the call, and immediately was met with a barrage of complaints from the other end before the call ended with a sharp click.
With a grimace, Jin Zisu put away her phone and glared at Si Yin's innocent face, shouting, "It's all your fault! I can't go to work on time, my face is injured, I can't do my etiquette job, and I can't take modeling or event gigs. All my part-time jobs are gone! How much am I going to lose?"
After saying this, she began to furiously press the calculator app on her phone, her expression growing worse as she pouted and nearly burst into tears.
"Stop calculating, stop calculating... I know it's my fault. Once you're out of the hospital, I'll help you find a job, okay?" Si Yin said, genuinely worried as she saw the tears welling up.
"Really?" Jin Zisu looked at her with bright eyes.
"Really," Si Yin replied, trying hard to make her expression appear sincere.
“ Pinky Promise! No cheating!” She huffed, extending her hand.
Si Yin couldn't help but laugh, but under her watchful gaze, he still seriously reached out his hand and made the promise with her.
