"Boom——!"
Accompanied by the deafening explosion, the Steam Mech summoned by Xiao Meng was instantly reduced to a shower of parts, scattering everywhere.
Xiao Meng felt as if she had been thrown into a washing machine, spinning wildly with the added intensity of concentrated fragments of time and space, her senses overwhelmed.
When she finally regained her composure, she found herself engulfed in a bizarre torrent of memories.
Ancient altars, towering laboratories, familiar streets flashed before her eyes like a revolving lantern.
Suddenly, the images froze.
In a dimly lit room, Qingmei was struggling to stuff an ancient tome into the hourglass.
In the faint light, it was clear that a burn scar marked her right wrist, etched with runes and deep enough to see bone—a shocking sight.
"So you knew all along..." Xiao Meng murmured, her voice trembling slightly.
She finally understood why Qingmei had suddenly disappeared and why she possessed this strange hourglass.
It turned out that everything was part of a carefully orchestrated scheme!
Just as Xiao Meng was reeling from the shock, her peripheral vision caught something unusual.
On Sunshine's right shoulder, the once shallow star-shaped scar now appeared to be activated, revealing intricate and ancient Witch Script that glowed with a soft blue light.
"Xiao Meng! Wake up!"
Sunshine grabbed Xiao Meng's wrist urgently, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Without hesitation, he bit into his fingertip, crimson blood instantly welling up and dripping onto the back of Xiao Meng's hand.
"Priestess! Quickly use my blood to activate Stellar Trajectory!" Sunshine's voice was low and urgent, carrying an undeniable command.
Xiao Meng was taken aback.
She looked at Sunshine, at the familiar warmth and determination in his eyes, a surge of inexplicable emotion rising within her.
She didn't know whether to trust him or if she should follow his instructions.
But in the end, she chose to believe.
She extended her trembling hand and gently touched Sunshine's fingertip with hers.
At the moment their fingertips connected, the air around them seemed to freeze.
A brilliant beam of light erupted from where they touched, instantly illuminating the entire space.
"Ha ha ha ha..."
A chilling mechanical laughter suddenly seeped from their shadows, cold as a viper and sending shivers down their spines.
"Such a deeply moving love! Unfortunately, your efforts are destined to be in vain!"
Xiao Meng and Sunshine suddenly turned around, but saw nothing. Only their elongated shadows danced on the ground, as if trying to swallow them whole.
"Be careful!" Sunshine growled, pulling Xiao Meng behind him and scanning the surroundings warily.
At that moment, the Bronze Star Disk hovering in mid-air suddenly projected a holographic image.
In the image, Qingmei appeared pale and weak, yet her gaze was unwavering.
"Don't trust the Ancient Priestess's memories! The real Time-Space Key is..." Qingmei's voice was intermittent, as if interrupted by some force.
Before she could finish, a black rune suddenly appeared and instantly consumed the entire holographic image.
Darkness enveloped them once more.
Then, at the bottom of the hourglass, a three-dimensional map emerged.
It was an incredibly detailed map marked with various complex lines and symbols, resembling some kind of mysterious formation.
Xiao Meng carefully examined the details on the map and soon recognized a familiar place.
Wasn't that... the Herb Shop's Cellar?!
Could it be that the true Time-Space Key was hidden within the Cellar?
But why would Qingmei conceal such important information there? What was she trying to tell her?
Countless questions flooded Xiao Meng's mind, leaving her feeling bewildered.
Suddenly, she noticed a location on the map that was specially marked.
It was a corner deep within the Cellar, usually piled high with various clutter, a place that no one would pay attention to.
Something secret seemed to be hidden there...
She had to check it out!
Xiao Meng resolved in her heart.
"Sunshine, we—"
"Xiao Meng, watch out!"
Sunshine suddenly shouted in alarm and tackled Xiao Meng to the ground.
"Thud—!"
A black shadow pierced through the wall behind them with a sound that made their teeth ache.
Xiao Meng lifted her head in shock, her eyes falling upon a pitch-black hole in the wall, surrounded by eerie runes that emitted a nauseating aura.
What was that thing?!
Fear filled Xiao Meng's heart. She tried to stand up, but found her body immobilized as if under a spell.
"Don't move! That's Voodoo!" Sunshine's voice was low and hoarse, tinged with pain.
Voodoo?
Xiao Meng's heart raced. She had heard of this evil sorcery, said to control a person's soul and turn them into a puppet. Could it be that the shadow she had seen earlier was Voodoo?!
"Sunshine, are you okay?" Xiao Meng struggled to rise, but noticed Sunshine's body trembling violently.
"I'm fine..." Sunshine forced a smile, but his face grew paler by the second, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
Suddenly, he lifted his head sharply and looked at Xiao Meng.
"Xiao Meng... hurry... get out of here..." Sunshine's voice was intermittent, as if he had exhausted all his strength.
"No! I'm not leaving! I want to leave with you!" Xiao Meng shook her head firmly, gripping Sunshine's hand tightly.
"It's useless... I... have already been... controlled..." Sunshine's voice weakened further, his gaze becoming increasingly vacant.
"Sunshine! Wake up! You can't let them control you!" Xiao Meng desperately shook Sunshine's body, trying to rouse him.
But no matter how hard she tried, Sunshine's eyes grew emptier and more unfamiliar.
Suddenly, Sunshine jerked his head up and looked at Xiao Meng, a strange smile creeping onto his lips.
"Hehehe... Xiao Meng, stop wasting your effort... you can't escape..."
His voice was no longer that of Sunshine; it was filled with malice and mockery.
Xiao Meng's heart sank to the depths of despair.
What should she do now?
Just as she felt hopeless, a faint voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
"Run... run fast..."
Was that... Qingmei's voice?!
Qingmei was still alive?!
A glimmer of hope ignited in Xiao Meng's heart. She had to find Qingmei, locate the true Time-Space Key, and thwart Black-hearted Grandpa's scheme! But where should she run?
Just as Xiao Meng felt lost, Sunshine suddenly extended a hand, pointing to the three-dimensional map at the bottom of the hourglass. "Go... Cellar... find... the time-space... key..."
After uttering these words, Sunshine's body trembled violently and lost consciousness completely.
Xiao Meng clenched her teeth, suppressing the pain in her heart as she stood up and ran toward the direction of the Cellar. The threat of Black-hearted Grandpa's plot could descend at any moment!
As Xiao Meng's figure vanished into the darkness, a tiny crack suddenly appeared in the air. Following that, a fragmented soul emerged from the fissure. It was none other than Mu Yun's lingering consciousness!
His eyes were filled with madness and hatred, fixated on the back of Sunshine's neck, where a small chip was embedded...
Xiao Meng took off running, feeling as if her heart might leap out of her throat. Cellar, Cellar! Where the hell was that cursed Cellar? She ran while mentally cursing herself. If only she had brought a navigation device; this otherworldly map was more complicated than any maze game she had ever played!
At that moment, Mu Yun's ghostly fragmented consciousness squeezed out from the Time-Space Rift, drifting like a wisp of smoke about to extinguish. His hollow eyes burned with a frenzied flame, fixated on Sunshine's neck. The look in his eyes seemed as if he wanted to devour Sunshine whole, sending chills down Xiao Meng's spine.
"Quick! Delete Memory Reset Program!" Mu Yun's voice was hoarse like rusty gears, each word squeezed from deep within his throat, echoing with an unsettling resonance.
Mu Yun extended a finger that resembled a withered branch, its tip flickering with an eerie green light as it plunged into the chip embedded in Sunshine's neck. The chip was something Xiao Meng had never noticed before; it lay hidden beneath Sunshine's thick hair like a venomous snake lurking in the shadows, waiting for its chance to strike.
Sunshine’s body shook violently for a moment; her pupils dilated, her gaze becoming vacant like a marionette.
"Initiating 47th memory overwrite..." Sunshine’s voice was mechanical and cold, devoid of any emotion, repeating predetermined instructions like a programmed machine.
Forty-seven times?!
Xiao Meng gasped, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information. What on earth had this child experienced? Had they been formatted forty-seven times? That was even more than the number of times she had emptied her computer's recycle bin!
Before she could ponder further, she felt her feet give way, and she tumbled into a dark hole. "What the heck! Who dug this pit?" Xiao Meng rubbed her sore backside, unable to hold back her expletives.
Once she adjusted to the darkness, she realized she was in a cold, damp cellar. The air was thick with the smell of mold and herbs, making her cough uncontrollably. Wait, the smell of herbs? Suddenly, Xiao Meng remembered that Qingmei was the heir of the Herb Shop. Could it be...?
She looked around and saw that the cellar was filled with all sorts of jars and bottles, each labeled with strange inscriptions, resembling a witch's potion room. Just then, an hourglass emitted a blinding light, illuminating the entire cellar as if it were daylight.
To Xiao Meng's astonishment, the steam mech summoned by the hourglass transformed into Qingmei's likeness! What... what was going on? Had Qingmei turned into a robot?
Before she could make sense of it all, a chilling sound of metal scraping echoed through the room. She quickly looked up to see the ceiling of the cellar slowly opening, revealing an outside scene.
Black-hearted Grandpa! He had transformed into a gigantic bronze coffin! The coffin was larger than any she had ever seen, intricately carved with witch script that exuded an overwhelming sense of oppression.
What shocked Xiao Meng even more was that on the lid of the coffin appeared a witch script contract binding her and Sunshine in chains! "What on earth is going on? This old man is taking things way too far!" Xiao Meng couldn't help but complain.
At that moment, the lid of the bronze coffin creaked open, revealing Black-hearted Grandpa's eerie face. "Xiao Meng, my dear granddaughter, you have finally arrived," his voice resonated like a demon from hell, sending chills down her spine.
He extended a hand like a withered branch, pointing at Xiao Meng with a sinister smile creeping across his lips. "Now, you belong to me..."
