Xiao Meng felt like a rag doll tossed into a washing machine, thoroughly mixed up inside and out. The buzzing in her ears was relentless, and Sunshine held her tightly, yet the pain that felt as if it would tear her apart showed no signs of easing.
She managed to lift her head and saw blood trickling from the corner of Sunshine's mouth, which made her heart ache. "Sunshine... are you okay?" she asked weakly, her voice trembling.
Sunshine shook his head and forced a smile. "Don't worry, I'm a prince from another world; it's not that easy to take me down."
Just then, a sweet voice broke the tense atmosphere. "Mommy, you forgot to pick me up from school!"
Xiao Meng and Sunshine turned simultaneously to see Nursery Rhyme standing at the entrance of the Sacred Site, holding a star-shaped lantern. The lantern emitted a faint glow that appeared particularly eerie in the dim surroundings.
"Nursery Rhyme? What are you doing here?" Xiao Meng asked in confusion.
Nursery Rhyme tilted her head and blinked innocently. "I finished school, but Mommy wasn't home, so I came to find you myself."
As she spoke, she raised the lantern, and from within it came the sound of a baby's cries—sharp and piercing, sending chills down their spines.
Xiao Meng instantly felt goosebumps all over; something was definitely off. This Nursery Rhyme was far too strange! And she called her Mommy? What was going on?
Sunshine's expression grew serious as he stared at the lantern in Nursery Rhyme's hand. "What is that thing?" he whispered to Xiao Meng.
Xiao Meng shook her head, indicating that she didn't know either.
Nursery Rhyme seemed oblivious to their unease as she giggled and stepped closer with the lantern. "Mommy, look! Isn't my little star cute?"
The cries from the lantern grew louder and more mournful, as if they were trying to suck in their very souls.
In an instant, as Nursery Rhyme approached, Sunshine suddenly moved. He grabbed her wrist with force, and a silver light instantly wrapped around it like a constricting snake.
"You!" Nursery Rhyme seemed startled, nearly dropping the lantern.
Sunshine's face turned grave as he fixed his gaze on Nursery Rhyme's wrist. "You have the Sacrificial Mark of the Azure Priestess in your blood!"
Xiao Meng froze, completely bewildered by what Sunshine was saying. What was this Azure Priestess? What was the Sacrificial Mark? None of it made any sense!
However, something even more bizarre happened. Nursery Rhyme didn’t seem to be frightened by Sunshine’s actions; instead, she revealed a strange smile. She extended her other hand, licked the popsicle she held, and began to sing as if no one were around.
“Xing Sha, Xing Sha, gently sway, sway to Grandma's bridge…”
Her voice was sweet and ethereal, as if it came from a distant time and space, carrying an oppressive feeling that was suffocating. Xiao Meng felt a splitting headache as the surroundings began to blur. It was as if she were trapped in a distorted time and space where everything was collapsing and crumbling around her.
“Is this… Time-Space Collapse?!” Sunshine exclaimed, her face turning pale. Just then, Nursery Rhyme abruptly stopped singing. She lifted her head, her once innocent gaze now hollow and eerie. Her mouth opened and closed, producing an old and hoarse voice.
“Feed Black Infant with Witch Bloodline, and you can restart the Time-Space Loop.”
The voice seemed to come from the depths of hell, filled with endless malice and curses. A chill ran from Xiao Meng's feet to the top of her head as she stared in disbelief at Nursery Rhyme. What… what was happening?!
What shocked her even more was that she noticed a figure resembling her own, Xing Wen, emerging at Nursery Rhyme’s collarbone!
“This…” Xiao Meng trembled as she reached out to touch Xing Wen.
“The game… has just begun…”
A strange smile crept across Nursery Rhyme's lips, filled with schemes and calculations that sent shivers down one's spine. Xiao Meng felt as though she had stumbled into a pirated film scene; the visuals were glitchy, the sound distorted, and there was a lingering smell of cheap plastic. She wanted to scream, to roar, to ask the heavens what kind of madness this was, but her throat felt as if it were sealed with cement—no sound would come out.
Nursery Rhyme’s wicked popsicle had precisely struck her vocal cords.
“Hehe, a mute can’t be a Priestess,” Nursery Rhyme tilted her head, laughing innocently like a little demon. “A voiceless witch is like a night sky without stars—dim and worthless.”
Xiao Meng silently cursed: Screw your Priestess! All I want is to be an ordinary hourglass user! Has even time travel become competitive these days?
But soon she realized that things were not so simple. The moment she lost her voice, the previously faint image of Xing Wen at her collarbone suddenly became clear and stable.
Xing Wen felt like a finely tuned Lock Core, securely locking away a certain power, granting her an unprecedented sense of calm.
Sunshine seemed to notice this as well. “I see…” he murmured softly, not quite sure what he was saying.
Although Xiao Meng couldn't speak, she was far from helpless. After all, she had an advantage! She concentrated fiercely, trying to communicate with the Time Sandglass in her hand. If she couldn't make a sound, then she would prove herself through action!
“Come forth! My Steam Mech!” she shouted in her mind.
A dazzling beam of light erupted from the hourglass, and a three-meter-tall Steam Mech materialized out of thin air, exuding a strong Industrial Style and Steampunk vibe that instantly ignited the atmosphere.
The metal exterior of the mech was adorned with rapidly spinning gears, producing a deafening roar as if a slumbering giant had been awakened.
“Wu Hu! Take off!” Xiao Meng cheered for herself in her mind.
However, before she could revel in her excitement for too long, another anomaly occurred. The popsicle in Nursery Rhyme's hand began to melt.
The melting ice water was not ordinary liquid; it shimmered with starlight, resembling flowing Xing Sha. The Xing Sha slowly streamed together behind Nursery Rhyme, forming a bizarre vortex.
Suddenly, from within the vortex, a pale hand emerged.
That hand belonged to an infant—a Black Infant covered in strange patterns!
“Ka Cha—”
The Black Infant burst forth, breaking free from Nursery Rhyme's back and hovering in mid-air.
Nursery Rhyme collapsed helplessly to the ground, her gaze vacant as if she had lost her soul.
Meanwhile, the Black Infant let out a chilling laugh that sounded like both an infant's cry and an old man's howl, leaving one unable to discern whether it was crying or laughing; all that could be felt was a creeping dread and cold sweat.
At that moment, a familiar voice emerged from the Umbilical Cord connecting the Black Infant to Nursery Rhyme.
The voice carried a hint of madness, a touch of pride, and an unsettling affection.
“Xiao Meng, my dear daughter, welcome to... paradise.”
